BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU.
Governor of Ondo State,Nigeria,Dr Olusegun Rahman Mimiko has been tagged suicidal in his recent cross over to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party ,[PDP]
In an exclusive interview with Paedia Express Multimedia in Lagos, Nigeria in his home in Lagos, Nigeria, a  grass root politician ,Mr Olusoji Ajioye wondered why Nigerian politicians lacked principles.
He explained that if he was in Governor Mimiko’s shoes he would have stayed back to strengthen democracy via opposition politics by making the Labour Party a better place rather then jumping ship.
He paid a glowing tribute to the likes of General Muhammadu Buhari , Alhaji Rasheed Ladoja  among others for providing a ready alternative for the electorates  as a far as Nigerian politics was concerned .
He noted that it was not too late for the Governor to retrace his steps  back to the Labour Party  as he was sure that he will regret  his movement  to the juicy looking PDP very soon.

WHISTLE BLOWERS SET BANANA PEEL FOR WORLD BANK MAFIA ON WATER

WHISTLE BLOWERS SET BANANA PEEL FOR WORLD BANK
MAFIA ON WATER

WATER WILL SOON BECOME A MAJOR TALKING POINT IN NIGERIA

BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU.
Lagos state government will have to prepare for a hell of a trouble soon as whistle blowers on the aegis of the Environmental Rights Action and Friends of the Earth said they will not rest until the state rescinds its decision to go into an unholy alliance with the International Finance Corporation, an arm of the World Bank Group over its plans to privatize water in the state.
In his address to a cross section of the Nigerian and global media, the  A director of Corporate Accountability at ERA,Mr Akinbode  Oluwafemi said that it was very sad that at a time when water is been considered as a natural resource which should not be toyed with for the benefit of humanity some selfish interest motivating corporate concern wish to sue water to make life unbearable for mankind.
He went down memory lane to 1979 when Lagos state started to romance western donors on the need to improve the water infrastructures within the state and wondered what the leadership had done with all the years of support they have been given by the donors.
According to him because things have not been better a lot of residents have now resorted to drilling boreholes so as to meet with there water needs  while about 95 percent of the populace resort to drinking unsafe water from streams, rivers, wells among other bad sources.
He lamented that the leadership of the state government under Barrister Babatunde Fashola instead of carrying the people along have now gone into a secret partnership with the World Bank group with most of the details very sketchy as at press time.
He listed cities around the world like Manila in the Philippines ,Accra in Ghana as places where this kind of experiments have been toyed with in the past but failed woefully .
Oluwafemi speaks:”around the world, the IFC advices regimes, conducts corporate bidding processes, designs complex and lopsided water privatization contracts, dictates arbitration terms and is part owner of water corporations that win the contracts it designs and recommends, all while aggressively marketing the model to eb replicated around the world”
“Not only do these activities undermine democratic water governance but they constitute an inherent conflict of interest within the IFC activities in the water sector ,an alarming pattern seen from eastern Europe to India to South East Asia”
He recalled that civil society groups across the United States last week started calling and sending out messages to the World Bank for demanding full disclosures  over the matter but up till now ,the Bretton Woods firm has been numb.
He warned that if the current efforts by the World Bank is allowed to sail through ,it will just be a replica of what was happening in the power sector.
He told the Lagos state government that the efforts to privatize water as a utility product to the people was an elephant project which will only bring an ill wind hence should be stopped.
In her own submissions, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, President ,Woman Arise Initiative  said that it was time the state leadership listen to the yearnings of the people and not take decisions that will expose the masses to unnecessary hardship.
She assured that he was sure that the present leadership in Lagos has a listening ear and that the decision may not stand when they know the eventual and long terms implication of there decision.
In his own contributions, Mr Francis Abayomi, Director, Peace and Development project, Lagos said it was vital that whistle blowers and all other people with conscience come together so as to forge a common front on the matter as it concerns privatization as  failure will make the incoming generation of Nigerians ask more questions.

The last may not have been heard of the Oscar Pistorious saga as the amputee and celebrated South African Track and Field Star who was recently set free by a Judge for killing his girlfriend has now led to a serious stigma against the trial judge.
Checks by Paedia Express Multimedia in Lagos showed that despite the years of multi-racial culture and democracy since the Apartheid policy of the white minority regime was set aside the racial card was still very much on the card as critisms of the judge continues even in Nigeria
A source told this reporter that he was sure that if the trial judge had treated a case involving a black man instead of a white perhaps his judgment may have been different.
He accused the judge of been under pressure t o give a not guilty verdict on Oscar Pistorious but instead charged him for manslaughter.
  • His words:”How can Oscar Pitorious claim that he shot his girlfriend because he did not know her voice, somebody that he has interacted with over a period of time”
A cafe has come under fire after making a distasteful joke about Oscar Pistorius' killing of Reeva Steenkamp on its receipts.
Dozens of angry customers complained about the joke, which read: "Oscar Pistorius was super keen to get a new bathroom door, but his girlfriend was dead against it."
It came after the South African sprinter was found not guilty of his girlfriend's murder, but guilty of manslaughter after shooting her dead through a bathroom door.
Scorch-O-Rama, in Scorching Bay, Wellington on the New Zealand coast, landed in hot water as customers took to social media to vent their outrage.
Anita Easton posted on Facebook: "Your ‘joke' about the killing of a woman in an incident of domestic violence just ended our family tradition of starting and ending our rides around the peninsula at Scorching Bay."
Another former customer Shauna Ray Ratapu said: "Making jokes on receipts about domestic violence and murder makes this establishment no better than the ‘whites only' racist and misogynist American diners of the 50s. IT IS NOT OKAY!"
As well as receiving a torrent of social media complaints after a woman took a photo of the joke and shared it on Twitter, the cafe also had to deal with two upset phone calls – including one all the way from Melbourne, Australia.
Cafe owner Keith Morrison said he removed the joke from all receipts as soon as a customer complained – but the damage was already done.
He said the cafe was "truly sorry" and removed the joke "as soon as we had that vital moment of awareness".
"Sometimes our brains are the last thing to engage, when they should be the first," he said.
"We apologise again for any hurt or distress we caused people - it was absolutely never our intention.
"People are saying 'are my staff in an environment that isn't safe?' Come on. It's ridiculous to infer that, but I understand."
Morrison has since donated $1000 - around £550 - to Women's Refuge

OGBECHE IS A FIGHTER

OGBECHE IS A FIGHTER
BARTHOLOMEW OGBECHE WHEN HE WAS WELCOMED OFFICIALLY AT CAMBUR
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU
Except Coach Stephen Keshi of the Super Eagles of Nigeria continues his eccentricity of  inviting  players to camp based on self serving reasons rather than ability, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Forgotten Super Eagles and Nigerian International who now plies his trade with Cambur in The Dutch Eredivisie deserves a call up into the team soon.
Recently the Super Eagles gaffer stunned the football world when eh declared that an inform Obafemi Martins of Seattle Sounders in the Major soccer League was too old at 30 years despite the fact that he has weighed in with 17 goals as at press time.
It would be recalled that Shola Ameobi who was playing for Newcastle in England last season only scored once all through the season and at 32 years still made it to the World Cup held recently, under Keshi’s tutelage.
As at the last count in about 20 games or even more since Ogbeche joined Cambur in 2012,he has scored at least 11 times in all competitions for the modest side in Holland.
Fast track this down the memory lane and a yo9ung man who was still trying to cut his teeth in European Football was under pressure by his nation to be an instant star at the World Cup in 2002 after impressing in a friendly with a spectacular overhead kick which caught the imagination of the technical crew led by coach Adegboye Onigbinde thus getting him an instant call up.
He has however played for a host of European sides in the last decade as he tried to convince the watching faithful that he was not a flash in the pan.
He has scored over 50 goals in his club career in all competitions as at press time.
As a youngster, Ogbeche was bought by French Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain FC, making his debuts with the first team during the 2001–02 season. However, he failed to settle at the club, also suffering a thigh injury and serving two six-month loans, to fellow league teams SC Bastia and FC Metz; for the former, he netted in a 4–1 home win against Olympique de Marseille on 7 March 2004 - the Corsicans secured their top flight status, and he left PSG for good in June 2005.
After a brief time in the United Arab Emirates Ogbeche moved to Spain, first with Deportivo Alavés in Segunda División. Although he posted good individual numbers, the Basque team failed to return to the top division but he joined another club in the main category, Real Valladolid, making his league debut on 26 August 2007 in a 1–0 away win against RCD Espanyol (12 minutes played).
In late August 2009, after two seasons of intermittent use, Ogbeche arranged a one-year deal with Andalusia's Cádiz CF, in the second level. He finished the season as the club's top scorer, but it finished in 19th position and was relegated.
After one year in Greece with Kavala FC, Ogbeche joined Football League Championship team Middlesbrough on 18 October 2011, signing until the end of the season. On 17 December he scored his first goal for his new club, against Cardiff City in a 3–2 away win; on 6 March 2012 he came on as a substitute towards the end of the home game against Barnsley, lobbing the ball over Luke Steele for the final 2–0.
In 2014 Ogbeche continued his career in the Netherlands, signing at SC Cambuur until the end of the 2013-2014 Eredivisie season. In his first match for the Dutch side, Ogbeche scored one goal and made one assist.
International career
A Nigerian international since 2002, aged 18, Ogbeche was picked for that year's FIFA World Cup, and appeared in two group stage matches in an eventual group stage exit.
