 THE OFFENSIVE ADVERTORIAL BY THE PUNCH NEWSPAPERS IS STILL CAUSING RIPPLES IN THE LAND

The Punch Newspapers ,Nigeria’s number one newspaper brand  recently flouted  the Nigerian Media Code of Elections Coverage for 2015 and the recently signed Abuja Accord by the two top candidates in the 2015 General elections to Hold in Nigeria.

Checks by Paedia Express Multimedia in Lagos,Nigeria shows that a new booklet provided for electoral coverage to guide reporters is now in circulation.

The 32 page booklet which is handy and pocket sized for reporters  was prepared by such agencies like the Broadcasting  Organization of Nigeria [B.O.N]Nigerian Union of Journalists [N.U.J],Nigerian Guild of Editors[N.G.E],Newspaper Proprietors of Nigeria ,Media Rights Agenda,The International Press Centre ,Nigerian Association of Women Journalists ,Radio,Television ,Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria.

It was discovered that for the love of money and without giving a hoot for whose axe was gored,The Punch Newspapers published a front cover advertorial on the 19^th January,2015 leading to verbal fisticuffs in the polity as politicians threw tantrums at each other.

The advertorial published under the instructions of Governor of Ekiti State,Mr Ayodele Fayose promoted hate speech as it incited Nigerians against each other shortly afterwards.

As at press time, opinions sampled by Paedia Express Multimedia on the heated subject on the person of General Muhammadu Buhari ,All Progressive Congress Presidential Candidate shows that the nation’s is divided on the health status of the Daura Born Former military Head of State.

Some Opinions were of the believe that it was not cultural for governor Ayo Fayose to pronounce death on a man  that was still alive ,others were of the opinion that the Ekiti born political strongman had hit the nail on the head and that since truth was bitter there was nothing anybody could do about it.

In the Nigerian media code of elections coverage page 22,section 3.5 titled political advertisement, the responsibility of media firms are clearly stated for all to see, read and digest  .

Section 3.5,sub-section 1 clearly states that a media firm should identify political adverts, advertorials  and refrain from presenting as independent news or opinion of the organization such advert messages.

Section 3.5,sub section 2 of the code Paedia Express Multimedia gathers shows that a media company should not publish or air political adverts, advertorials and sponsored political news that seeks to create hatred or incite violence.

Paedia Express Multimedia reliably noted through the manual in section 4,sub section zero that hate speech and other forms of incitement could lead to violence and threaten the democratic fabric of a society  hence the social obligations of the media during elections therefore includes the prevention of hate speech in every forms in its publication.

In the manual,the stakeholders advised that a journalist should make use of temperate language in reporting election while a media firm should reject any material intended for publication or airing by parties ,candidates and other interests that contains hateful or inciting words and messages.

The media stakeholders also urged all media firms without an exception to meticulously monitor the content of its social media platform so as to stop the spread of hate and inciting messages.

Recently a consortium of civil society groups among which includes the policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, CLEEN Foundation, Action Aid Nigeria, Centre for Democracy and Development ,Enough is Enough Nigeria, Wangonet, Partners for Electoral Reforms ,Youth Initiative For advocacy, Growth and Advancement, Development Dynamics, Human Rights Monitor, Election Monitor, Reclaim Naija,Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law,CITAD,CISLAC, and several others numbering over 60 took a swipe at The Punch Newspapers over the promotion of hate speech in its advertorial.

It said:”The advertisement negates the Abuja Accord recently signed by the Presidential Candidates and leaders of political parties for the elections and we advice politicians to be cautious in their campaigns and conduct ahead of the February polls  and allow peace to reign in the country”

The group expressed  condemned The Punch Newspapers for accepting to publish such advertisement in clear violation of its duty to promote national cohesion at all  times

In a related issue,The Leadership Newspapers published  an equally hate messaged advertorial of General Buhari on page 44 of January,21^st ,2015 .

General Buhari was presented to the public in a message sponsored by the Nigerian Integrity and Justice Forum as an ethnic jingoist and religious fanatic without substantial facts to back up the claims  in the said publication as more Nigerian press firms continue to run foul of the media code on elections and Abuja Accord.

It will be recalled that recently ,President Goodluck Jonathan  whose office represents every single Nigerian irrespective of political affiliation,tribal or ethnic differences was attacked by misguided youths while on his way to visit the mother of Late President of Nigeria ,Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua ,Hajia Dada at her Katsina Country Home.

It took a combine unit of soldiers and anti-riot policemen to disperse of  the irate youths who heralded the presidential entry into the area with chants of “Sai Buhari”  and some calling Jonathan “arna” ,a Hausa Derogatory word for unbeliever or an idolater.

There has been further skirmish in the North against the campaign team of Dr Goodluck Jonathan in Maiduguri,Bauchi among other places as violence escalated in the after math of The Punch’s publications of the 19^th of January,2015.

The Punch Newspapers lust for money has surely set Nigeria on fire as at press time.

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Candidate and Current Nigerian leader, Dr Goodluck Jonathan lied under oath when he claimed that he already had a Phd certificate .

Forensic checks by Paedia Express Multimedia IN Lagos ,Nigeria showed that on the 21^st of January,2015,Former Nigerian President ,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had disclosed publicly on television that Dr Jonathan did not have a Phd in 2007 but the  party granted him a waiver and wondered why a mountain was now been made out of a mole hill as it concerns General Buhari’s college certificate.

As soon as the Buhari issue became a scam on the 30^th of December,2014,analysts expected a quick fix but the fact that it took at least three weeks before it was sorted out is now making the opposition to call the certificate an “Oluwole” arrangement .

A visibly angry human right activist, Barrister Samuel Adeola Ilori of Ilori Chambers in Lagos,Nigeria wanted to know from this reporter why the press had not deemed it fit to give the Jonathan’s Phd certificate gaffe as much prominence like that of General Buhari and concluded that without a doubt they were been bribed to silence.

If Nigeria had a virile press,the normal thing would have been for the media to have disclosed exclusively the true details of General Buhari’s certificate  since the day of his graduation from college and his alma Mata was quite known to all but it took a whole three weeks before this was made known to all thus fuelling suggestions that a forged material was presented to Nigerians to douse tension.

As it stands right now  the real story about the certificate saga may never be known   

It would be recalled that The Sun Newspapers also tried to dig up the Daura Born retired General’s past but did not say much about the contentions certificate in question.

It is also strange that only Hallmark Newspapers exposed the medical history of the retired general and a one time Nigerian Head of state thus raising more questions on whether the Nigerian press is actually alive to its duties of been a true gate keeper.

In a related issue,an early indication as to how the voters will vote for the lections in the Lagos governorship race emerged recently .

A source told Paedia Express Multimedia that a lot of natives of Lagos were planning to do sympathy votes for Mr Jimmy Agbaje as they move to nip Tinubu’s wings in the bud.

He fingered a newspaper advertorial published by Prince Adeniji Adele as a pointer to his arguments, saying that this opinion was gaining a groundswell of support in Alimosho,Mushin and Oshodi with a lot of non-natives involved in the rebellion against Tinubu’s political savagery. 

In a related issue, a source has declared that at least five members of the PDP and the APC had been killed in a recent series of gun battle between both camps in Lagos.

He explained to Paedia Express Multimedia that tempers rose to boiling point at the Orile Agee area recently when an APC supporter stoke fire as he threw caution into the winds and tore some campaign posters and banners of PDP into shreds thus leading  to questions from onlookers who were PDP supporters.

The source told Paedia Express Multimedia that it was at this juncture the thug from APC took out his gun and shot killed a PDP supporter and in the reprisal attacks that took place,PDP faithful were also said to have killed three APC supporters as at press time.

It was also gathered that as the air of tension enveloped Lagos, series of gun duels ensued with another PDP supporter been killed at Abule Egba area also in Lagos as at press time.

In a related issue,a yet another source told this reporter that the recent upsurge in the reports of market related fire in the  south West axis of the polity was due to a politically motivated agenda.

He revealed exclusively that the markets were been burnt by paid agents of government officials so that the government will have a reason to take it over, repair them and then give out the shops to their cronies.

According to him ,one of the arsonists responsible for market fires was recently apprehended by eagle eyed vigilante in Lagos and upon cross examination ,the security men were told to release him as he was under  instructions from the top.

The man who owns the power of life and death in the All Progressive Congress and its National Leader,Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is at it again.

He had started as at press time moves aimed at removing the names of those  who won the primaries in the party but who are not his good book with those of his allies.

On Sunday,18^th January,2015,this reporter was told that Honourable Saka Fafunmi who was supposed to be a resource person at the Fabulous Celebrity magazine awards was absent due to a recent political development.

It was gathered that there were moves to remove some names by the party from those who they were to present at the polls and this was why he could not come to the award event.

By the following day there was a lot of tension within the Ifako Ijaiye axis as the rumor mill became thick that Dr Elijah Adewale’s ticket had been withdrawn and given by Tinubu to his childhood friend ,Otunba Abayomi Ogunnusi in the Federal House of Representative race for Ifako –Ijaiye constituency .

The campaign train of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode had to cancel its party for Ifako –Ijaiye as security reports showed that irate youths were waiting for the Jagaban of Borgu with dangerous weapons ranging from matchet ,cutlass,guns,knives amongs others as they wanted to know the wisdom behind the planned imposition of Ogunnusi on them by Tinubu

Once upon a time this reporter had sent Otunba Abayomi Ogunnusi an urgent email as result of worries about his activities which the people had complained about but instead of defending himself eh sought and bribed the elders thinking that this will help him but now the days of reckonings are here.

At the time an impeccable source had told this reporter exclusively that Otunba Ogunnusi was an In -Law to African Independent Television owner,Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, a brother to Mrs Adedayo ,Founder of Tastee Fried Chicken and a college mate of Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu .

Another source  told Paedia Express Multimedia that he was aware that Dr Adewale ‘s supporters werev preparing to  go the campaign grounds as they were fully dressed in APC ‘S regalia but was stunned later on when he heard that on the 20^th January that this was not going to hold any more.

He recalled that in 2012 or thereabout Otunba Ogunnusi was attacked by party supporters because of his decisions not to support them financially.

The source accused the National Leader,Ashiwaju Bola Ahemd Tinubu of collecting bribes from his so called loyalists as eh could not understand  why somebody6 who lost out in the primaries will now emerge as the flag bearer of the party.

In a related issue,an impeccable source later informed this reporter that the ticket has since been returned to the rightful owner ,Dr Elijah Adewale as APC did not want to lose the constituency to its rivals,PDP.

The source also told Paedia Express Multimedia that had the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign trail not abandon their decisions to come to campaign in Ifako Ijaiye, blood bath would have been ignited as gun wielding youths who were in support of Dr Elijah Adewale alias Jah were  angry of moves by Ashiwaju  Bola Ahmed Tinubu to switch the formers name with that of his loyalist who was defeated flatly at the primaries.

Japanese Prime Minister: “IS’ violence is inexcusable”

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for the “immediate release of the hostages” this morning.  Two Japanese citizens were captured by IS and they threatened to kill them in 72 hours if their request for 200 million dollars was not met.  

At a press conference in Jerusalem, the Japanese Prime Minister addressed the chilling tape that was released showing the two Japanese hostages on their knees and between them was a member of IS known as John the Jihadist with a knife.  “I demand that you do not hurt them,” Abe announced.

The Japanese Prime Minister declared that saving their lives is at the top of his priorities and called for the immediate release of the Japanese citizens, stressing that the terrorists’ actions are “inexcusable." 

The extremism of IS endangers the international community.  I condemn all terrorist actions and call upon the world to fight this phenomenon,” he added and said that he feels resentment and hatred toward the kidnappers.

In the video made by IS that was released this morning, John the Jihadist, who is known from previous videos, is seen with a knife in his hand and beside him, two Japanese men are on their knees.  According to him, if the terror organization does not receive 200 million dollars within 72 hours, they are going to kill the hostages.  

“Japanese Prime Minister, although you are more than 8,000 kilometers away from the Islamic State, you are a part of this crusade,” John the Jihadist stated in the new video.  “You contributed in your fear 100 million dollars to kill our women and children, and to destroy the houses of Muslims.  As such, the life of one of these hostages is worth 100 million dollars,” he continued.  

“In order to stop the spread of the Islamic State, you contributed 100 million dollars and as such, the life of this hostage is worth the same sum,” he threatened-and turned to the Japanese people, demanding that they put pressure on the government to pay within 72 hours or the two would be killed.  

According to the reports in Japan, the names of the hostages are Kenji Goto Jogo and Haruna Yukawa.  Yukawa, a private military contractor in his 40’s, was kidnapped in Syria in August.  It is unclear why he was traveling within Syria.  Goto is a journalist who traveled to Syria in order to report on the war.  

As far as Western intelligence knows, a British journalist named John Cantlie is also in the hands of the terrorist organization and has become something of a spokesman for the terror organization, alongside an American woman, age 26, whose name has not been published upon the request of the American authorities.  

The Anti-Terror Wing of the Japanese Foreign Ministry watched the video and the staff analyzed the threatening message.  They stated that it was credible.  The Japanese Foreign Ministry does not intend to give in to the terrorism: “Such a threat is unacceptable and we are outraged.”

International Celebrity journal, Fabulous is  celebrating its fourth year in the trade in style.

At  its annual award ceremonies held at the weekend in Lagos. Nigeria guest from all walks of life gathered to mark the event with the publisher ,Madam Jane Osamor been at the centre of its all.

The high point of the event which lasted over six hours was the run way Fashion show that saw leggy models from various locations in the land coming to display the essence of what can be termed :Fabulous.

In his address at the event ,chairman of the occasion, Elder Oluwole Baker said   that he was happy that after four years in news business ,Fabulous magazine was recognizing home grown talents in its annual awards.

He prayed that in the nations drive towards economic emancipation , he prays that one day Nigeria will lay emphasis on agriculture as a pivot for driving its economic growth.

A video of about five minutes of how Dr Joe Okei –Odumakin was recently honored with the international women of courage award in the united states  was showed to the gathering  at the event.

A giant sized cake to usher in the celebrations of the journal at four in the celebrations at four was late r cut amidst pomp and pageantry.

Mrs Okei –Odumakin then told the gathering that those of them who have not collected their permanent voters cards should go ahead and do so as the election was just around the corner to vote for the leaders of their choice.

Awards were later presented in various categories to deserving Nigerians with the closing remarks by Mrs Victoria Oginni, Chief Executive officer of Blessed Foods and Drinks bringing the event to a halt.
