Kenya is interesting. Became Independent in 1963 and also a republic in the same year. Has a fairly thriving tourism industry by continental standards. It is the prime economic power house of East Africa. It is famous for its tea brand and regularly exports flowers to Europe. Has signed some controversial Chinese loans. Has also got some hot political issues ahead of its next presidential elections that has Vice President William Ruto and opposition leader, Uhuru Kenyatta as star contenders.
This East African nation is also the homeland of Ngugi wa Thiongo, the popular author of novels like Weep Not Child and Petals of Blood. It has never experienced a successful military coup. Along with Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa, it also stands as one of the anchor nations for the success or otherwise of the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA.
