The annual Nigerian Institute of Public (NIPR) Presidential Dinner and Award Ceremony was held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja recently and some corporate organisations and individuals were honoured.
Some of the awardees at the event were SIFAX Group, one of the fastest growing multinational corporations with diverse interests in maritime, aviation, haulage & logistics, oil & gas and hospitality which won the NIPR ‘Corporate Citizen Excellence Award’.
According to Dr. Rotimi Oladele, NIPR President, while presenting the award; SIFAX Group won the award due to its “winning team philosophy, best fit practices in corporate communication and landmark in corporate social responsibility.” SIFAX Group partners with Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation whose focal points include women empowerment, girl-child education, education/vocational training and indigent financial support, among others.
While reacting to the award, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, the Group Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, SIFAX Group, noted that impacting the society through creative social initiatives is a key part of the company’s business philosophy, adding also that the company believes that strategic communication is an important factor for business success.
He said; “We are thrilled by this recognition from a foremost professional body like NIPR. I believe this award is a reward for our modest contributions to the society. While we are in business to add value and make money, the company recognizes the role of giving back to the society. We are very rigid about our commitment to this.
“Our corporate communication is also very strategic. Few months ago, we launched a new brand identity that signifies our resolve to deepen our participation in the country’s economy and beyond.”
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr. Saleh Dunoma was also honoured with the award of ‘Leader of Excellence’ award.
According to NIPR, Dunoma was found worthy for the award because of his enormous contributions to the development of the nation's aviation sector and for his "outstanding contributions impacting positively on Nigeria's reputation, including best practices in corporate communication, commendable corporate citizenship and landmark in corporate value delivery."
The award for ‘Corporate Agency of Excellence’ went to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The NIPR President stated that ICPC was chosen after a very careful consideration of how the anti-graft agency conducts its operations with zero tolerance for corruption, yet with respect for the rule of law. He urged all Nigerians and foreigners alike to support ICPC as it is a responsible agency deserving of encouragement. He further stated that ICPC and other award-recipients were being honoured in recognition of their contributions to the development of the nation, and that it was time Nigerians honoured those who were deserving of acknowledgement.
The Chairman of ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta in a goodwill message after receiving the award expressed surprise that ICPC and indeed any anti-corruption agency could be picked out for awards considering the nature of its operations, especially at times like this.
Nta thanked NIPR for the gesture and posited that Public Relations practice and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations play a key role in the development of Nigeria and the repositioning of her image as a responsible country with very good citizens. He pledged that ICPC would continue to discharge its duty credibly while nurturing strategic partnerships with institutions such as the NIPR.
