FOR THE RECORD!!AKUFFO-ADDO IS GHANA’S PRESIDENT
FOR ANOTHER FOUR YEARS
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU,NOBEL LAUREATE
In the end ,a lot of people who had been on their edge by over 24 to 48 hours on watching to see where the pendulum of victory will shift on who wins the diadem to Castle Osu in Accra,Ghana ,had to finally settle for Akuffo-Addo,the incumbent President.
The Editorial and Policy Board of the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia Group of Lagos,Nigeria had actually detected that if the opposition groups in Ghana did not fly under a candidate there was no way they could defeat the New Patriotic Party [N.P.P.]of Akuffo-Addo.
Analysts are quick to point out the fact that votes of just about 300,000 separated The President and his nearest rival ,John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress [N.D.C.]
As at press time,it was gathered that the N.D.C was still protesting in Accra,Ghana over what it termed the stolen victory by the N.P.P. with suggestions the electoral matters might still have to be settled by Ghana’s Supreme Courts as what has happened has even heightened this believe with Former President John Dramani Mahama refusing to congratulate the winner of the polls which is currently disputed :Nana Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
In a survey watched and monitored by The News office Desk of the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia Group of Lagos,Nigeria via the Pan African Television of Accra,Ghana ,it was discovered that a lot analysts had hinted that several Ghanaians across the aisle were not going to accept a flawed poll even if this was what eventually took place.
It was discovered that a lot of elections had been disputed in the history of the former Gold Coast ,infact in 1992 ,it was disputed as well and so what is playing out is that the poll results are usually accepted by the winners while the losers usually dispute it.
But this is the first time that the N.D.C. is rejecting the polls to extent that they were ready to damn the consequences .
The last poll in 216 which got as far as the Supreme Courts had enabled the average Ghanaian to be more aware of democracy and the credentials of each of the party’s helmsmen.
Though feelers as at 24 to 48 hours to the eventual announcement of who won the Presidential Poll suggested a hung parliament that this eventually took place showed that the entire nation is in agreement that the rivals in their polity should work together for the next four years.
N.D.C. believed that they had secured a parliamentary result capable of winning the majority at the parliament hence they are very bitter with the military at allowing themselves to be used to twist results.
Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah ,The Information Minsiter while responding to John Dramani Mahama ‘s previous statements on the polls which Nana Akuffo-Addo ,his direct opponent did not consider as charitable affirmed that the claim that his party won the parliamentary majority but were arm twisted was complete falsehood.
He noted that it was wrong for Candidate Mahama to have told his supporters via dog whistle to start celebrating on the streets of Accra ,Ghana when the electioneering process at the time was on-going.
Akuffo-Addo had contested for the Presidency on three different occasions but only getting to win only once in 2016 .
He is said to have ridden to office on the basis of not being corrupt at the time in history as against now that the opposition charge him for one thing or the other .
According to the Ghanaian constitution ,either of the 2 candidates will need 50% +1 to carry the day when votes are collated and announced .
It is believed that there was an improvement in the vote casted for John Dramani Mahama, when only two regions remained to be announced with just 300 votes separating both rivals as against 800 votes in 2016.
As at 3:35a.m local time in Lagos,Nigeria ,Accra was agog with parties being organized by supporters of the two leading candidates from the New Patriotic Party [N.P.P.] and the National Democratic Congress [N.D.C.]
When a supporter of the N.P.P .was asked of why he was at the party secretariat dancing when the poll results had not being announced at the time ,the supporter said that he was sure dancing because his man Nana Akuffo-Addo had won the election.
About three women interviewed to get their views on the electoral result also noted that they were celebrating Nana Akuffo-Addo ‘s victory .
At the N.D.C party secretariat at Nima Area of Accra in Ghana ,an excited youth was seen as captured by the televisions lenses via Joy News insisting that his man:John Dramani Mahama had won the polls.
In his own accounts ,Mr Joseph Otokeba said that based on feelers ,facts and figures available to them in the party they were sure that John Mahama had won the elections as President of the Republic of Ghana for 2020 .
He accused the N.P.P,the rival but ruling party of trying to use the electoral commission to steal the elections results from them.
When a supporter was advised to wait for the Electoral Commission of Ghana ‘s announcement ,the supporter said that he was an incurable optimist and he believed that the NDC which was his party had won and insisted that the N.D.C. Should just stop foot dragging and go ahead to declare John Dramani Mahama as the winner.
It was discovered that the E.C. had not gotten results from Bono East and the Northern Region and this was what was causing the delay as at 4:2 a.m. local time in Lagos,Nigeria at the time.
There was also a case of reported violence in Bono East which led to two persons being injured with security forces having to step in to intervene at the time in history.
Analysts also pointed out that a politician could lose his or her position in the Ghana Parliament,Accra,Ghana ,not because they were incompetent but because the people that they represent feel they were disconnected from them, And as such insisted that the average Ghanaian voter had become very sophisticated with the times and it was seeking out for his or her own interests .
Ghana Journalist Association [G.J.A] cautioned political parties from attacking reporters as it was said that at least reporters from Joy News :Lateef Idris and another from the Newswatch of Ghana were said to have being brutalized by irate political supporters .
G.J.A. observed at its press that the elections were generally peaceful but for the pockets of violence in one or two places .
He revealed that a reporter from Newswatch ,an online Ghanaian news portal .,Pius was shot at and was so fatally injured that he will have to be operated upon at a hospital :The Greater Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge Road in Accra,Ghana ditto a female reporter with the British Broadcasting Corporation ,The B.B.C who was mistaken for an E.C. official instead.
The incident is said to have occurred at the Ablekuma Central Constituency at around 2:00 A.m. with the G.J.A insisting on the full weight of the law be brought against the perpetrators of the orgy of violence .
The G.J.A thanked the insurance company that helped to insure all of its members such that if anyone was affected negatively during the elections they could be adequately taken care of via adequate compensational package.
It was leant that Mr Pius could not escape from his assailants due to the fact that there was just one entrance to the collation centre and an argument which ensured over the pink sheets led to the unfortunate incident.
It was noted that a certain man by name:Mr Kola a.k.a.Cooler had come into the place and shot Mr Pius on his left leg and he could spend at least 18 months to recuperate and as such they were happy that Mr Pius was now stable and responding to treatment.
The insurance firm:S.T.C. of Ghana Limited were also fully represented at the G.J.A press conference held in Accra,In Ghana during the just concluded general elections for 2020 .
Doreen Ampofo,a Ghanaian female reporter while explaining what took place to his male colleagues said that one of the thugs threw stones at her directly and in an attempt to escape the melee she fell down in the process and had some bruises but has since been treated at the Ridge Hospital in Accra,Ghana.
She revealed that she was traumatized by the said incident as she had never gone through such a terrible experience in her life before.
The S.T.C Insurance official told the G.J.A. that they remain committed to the supporting the media as the entire world was talking about how they were performing.
Mr George Sarpong ,The Executive secretary ,Ghana Media Commission ,Accra ,Ghana said that he urged reporters to do all that was necessary to give the people the best as need good people in leadership at all times.
Mamman Aboagye of the Joy News in Accra,Ghana said that they were actually 7 outstanding regions that had not being fully collated at a point and hinted that this was one of the reasons why there were delays .
Jean Mensah ,Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission while apologizing for the delays at the time in announcing the results of the presidential elections between the two now warring gladiators said that it was due to unforeseen circumstances beyond her immediate control as a sudden change in weather affected the movement of some of their people and logistics to be used for the polls.
She also noted that results have to be collated and then sent to them so that they could be certified before it could be declared as okay for all.
There may have being speculations surrounding the delays but these are falsehoods which should be disregarded .
She explained that before a result is certified at each of the collation center, each of the party agents will have to counter sign on an individual basis before any result could be certified at that level.
She insisted that due to the varying platforms ,the collating sheets and materials are sent to the regions before it is sent to the national collation centre of the E.C.OF Ghana a and at each level , documentations are signed by all of the political parties hence it is almost impossible to rig the elections like many have said .
She revealed that in the wee hours of the morning ,she was of the believe that the expected results will start to trickle in with The formal announcement made of the Presidential winner.
She pleaded with the media to help the agency to highlight this facts to the political parties so that their supporters could remain calm .
The E.C. helmsman noted that they were very much hopeful that all things being equal the body was going to declare the results of the presidential polls on the 9th of December,2020 and this fell on a Wednesday.
Joy News later revealed that the Jean Mensah led Press conference monitored at around 4:00a.m. actually took place about three hours before .
A Pan African Television correspondent ,Mr Abdulbasit Mohammed was also said to have being attacked
By security agencies at the Techiman South Constituency.
Mohammed speaks:”It was a policeman that took my phone away from me and he slapped me severally and it was another policeman that knew me that delivered me from his hands “
“However ,he refused to his colleague and he threatened to arrest me and he was not even wearing his tags but when I see him I can recognize him “
“I also know the other police officer very well and he will be able to confirm the incident”
Pan African Television officials lamented the incident while speaking out on the matter and insisted that it was unacceptable..
Mr Marzuk,A Ghanaian scholar while speaking on the same station as above said that any forms of attack on any reporter should be seen as an attack on all collectively
