The battle for the soul of the Nigerian Press took a fierce and different turn recently as there were verbal exchanges between officials of Lagos State government of Nigeria and the founder of Paedia Express Multimedia over press freedom.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state while launching his scud missiles to ignite a media war against Paedia Express Multimedia Group tagged the firm a fifth columnist.

The Governor who spoke through his attack dog and Commissioner for  Information and Strategy ,Mr Steven Ayorinde while urging the Nigerian Union of Journalists to continue to uphold and build to sustain its integrity and reputation recently in Lagos,Nigeria during the quarterly meeting of the NationaL Executive Council however went into a parable to launch his attacks.

His Words:”I urge you to continue to guard your reputation and integrity against the activities of fifth columnists who may want to capitalize on the fluidity of internet communication and post scurrilous and unfounded information on supposed blogsites to cause disharmony and disaffection in the society”

“in as much as the constitution guarantees freedom of speech ,we should be responsible with our utterances and statements “

The Governor did not however state in his press statement why two of his security aides ferried him away like a contraband when The New office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia met him recently at a town hall meeting to enquire from him on his planned privatization of Lagos water despite initial denials by state officials which prompted an open letter from same source.

It is equally very strange that unlike Paedia Express Multimedia that speaks directly to the public in a language and clear tones which could be grabbed even by the dumb ,Ambode had to go via decoy to speak.

It would be recalled that about a week before  this or thereabout ,The Founder and Publisher of Paedia Express Multimedia Group,Mr Abdulmumini Adeku had cried out against those celebrating The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress[A.P.C]Asiwaju Bola Ahemd Tinubu ,saying that the politician and virtually all his followers should be in prison if Nigeria were to be a sane society.

The media tycoon even prayed for government agents to arrest him so that he can really expose fresh rot in the entire system as he was prepared to fight to get an open and public trial in court.

Adeku Speaks:”He is trying to make Tinubu happy and this is why he is attacking what we do ,unlike Sowoore who is always in hiding at Sahara Reporters am not in any hide and seek game and can be found easily”

“Tinubu’s people had used a dubious intermediary to try to invite me to The Nation Newspapers via letter which is still in my email box, God stopped me from going because is sensed it was an attempt to bribe me to silence”

“It may also  have been an attempt to prepare a ground to use against me legally and the accuse me of blackmail in the process,  but in all of this my God gave me an uncommon wisdom or insight”

“I know how you people can buy up all the lawyers, judges, media and even the policemen in town but somehow God always deliver me from the clutches of evil”

“Ambode is a human being like myself before he became a Governor and turned himself into an extra terrestrial ,power is transient and not forever and to that end I can tell him that despite his money ,position and paraphernalia of public office ,he does not in any way intimidate me “

“He depends on Tinubu to loosen up the screws for him but I depend and trust in God Almighty and no man born of a woman can intimidate me when I know  that I speak the truth and nothing but the truth”

“if he wants a war then I can assure him that he will not be disappointed at the quality of his adversary “

Paedia Express Multimedia Group as a result of the rot and deep moral decadence in the Nigerian society launched in 2013 a state of emergency and same is still in force as at press time.

The Lagos state government is not known to be a party  to the freedom of Information Bill and had to be dragged to the law courts by some civil society groups before their hands were forced hence it is not surprising that the Governor is uncomfortable at the scratching verbal Assault directed against his godfather ,Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
