·GOVT BEGINS STUDY ON SOIL EROSION IN LAGOS
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU..
Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment were as at press time ,14th of February,2020 ,conducting what appeared an environmental impact assessment on a deep gullied area of Idiagbon at College Road in Ifako-Ijaiye,Lagos,Nigeria..
This reporter had seen about three officials of the state agency taking a look at the area while taking down notes with the aid of a drone to conduct a survey in the area.
A source when queried about the distance the drone could cover noted that the gadget could travel as much as seven kilometers in full length aerially.
The source did not however reveal what the results of his study contained to The News office Desk of the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia Group of Lagos,Nigeria even though previous information available to this reporter showed the area was a swamp and also had a rich loamy soil profile good for the growth of economic crops like cocoa, coffee, kolanut amongst others.
Erosion is a process where natural
forces like water, wind, ice, and gravity wear away rocks and soil. It is a
geological process, and part of the rock cycle. Erosion occurs at the
Earth's surface, and has no effect on the Earth's mantle and core. ... Erosion
can cause problems that affect humans.
Erosion by Water. Liquid water is the major agent of erosion
on Earth. Rain, rivers, floods, lakes, and the ocean carry away bits of soil
and sand and slowly wash away the sediment. Rainfall produces four types
of soil erosion: splash erosion, sheet erosion, rill erosion,
and gully erosion.Mar 20, 2018
Erosion is the process by which the surface
of the Earth gets worn down. Erosion can be caused by natural
elements such as wind and glacial ice. But anyone who has ever seen a picture
of the Grand Canyon knows that nothing beats the slow steady movement of water
when it comes to changing the Earth.
The four main types of river erosion
are abrasion, attrition, hydraulic action and solution. Abrasion is the process
of sediments wearing down the bedrock and the banks. Attrition is the collision
between sediment particles that break into smaller and more rounded pebbles.
