A CAMPUS RITUAL AT OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY,ILE-IFE
ILE-IFE:DAY 11 PEOPLE WERE STRUCK
DEAD BY CULTISTS
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU
A Key and principal actor in the cult strike that engulfed
the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife ,Osun state of Nigeria in 1999 has
confided in the News office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia Group in
Lagos,Nigeria for the first time since the incident.
In a world exclusive chat with this reporter in his office
in Lagos,Nigeria ,the impeccable source said that the incident that led to the
cult strike which led to at least 11 people dead at the end of the day actually
started from July,10th ,1999.
The source who was an official of the student Union
Government at the time in history said that he had been implicated in an
admission racket gone rogue and to which he owned up to this reporter of been
guilty of but quickly added that he was also doing all within his powers at the
time to clear his names as things were messy over the issue.
The source had explained that he and his girlfriend had gone
to another friend's place to take an abode while the dusts on the admission
racket went down but it was in the process that a chain of events started on
campus whose impacts continues to echo till date in the school.
His words:"i think that the cult guys were standing on
a road and they had accused a certain Tunji Amosun of driving past them without
giving them a proper traffic warning and so they descended on him and got him beaten
to a pulp"
"The following day, people on seeing the way Tunji was beaten then urged him to go and
report at the Student Union Government's office and of course the case was
taken up immediately by the S.U.G .at the time"
"when the S.U.G. people went into the houses of those
people that beat Tunji Amosun, they discovered that there was an arms cache and
this was what made them to conclude that without a doubt this were
cultists"
"The guy i was staying with at the time was also
indicted and i was now at the middle of the entire crisis as my friends said
that i invited the S.U.G people to come after them and the S.U.G. people said i had betrayed their
confidence and they then labeled me a cultist and a traitor"
"it was just the grace of God that saw me through as a
faced a judicial panel of enquiry on the matter"
He noted that till this day,the memories of those that died
in the orgy of violence that took over the campus due to a reprisal attack by
the cultists over the humiliation they felt they suffered at the hands of the
S.U.G will never be forgotten.
He added that the cultists came for what looked like there
revenge on the day they were handling a coronation
ceremony at the schools kegite club with at least 11 people been killed
during the siege laid on the campus by the
invaders.
The source recalled that he was hinted to leave the campus
at least48 hours before the cultist struck by a good samaritan but he did not
have the money to leave campus..
