CHAOS AT I.D. CARD CENTRE IN LAGOS
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU
ONLY PRESIDENT BUHARI CAN WADE IN INTO THE NONE SENSE HAPPENING OVER THE COLLECTION OF THE NATIONAL I.D. CARD
There is a palpable air of confusion at the
National Identity Management Commission [N.I.M.C]office in
Alausa,Ikeja,Lagos,Nigeria .
Investigations by The News Office Desk of Paedia
Express Multimedia in Lagos,Nigeria suggests the Head of the agency ‘s Lagos
office is at the middle of it all.
It was reliably gathered that several Nigerians
who had made efforts to get their identity card for the past four years have
not been answered as at press time.
An angry Nigerian believed to be in his 60s was
seen by this reporter cursing at the top of his voice as he wondered aloud to
no one in particular what the agency officials had been doing for the past
three years as they refused to give him
his card.
A Nigerian believed to be in his 20s said he had
been working hard to collect his card since 2012 to no avail as another source
told this reporter that he knew of a man who
collected his own under three weeks in 2014 because he had bribe money
to offer .
A woman however gave this reporter a peep into the
rot in the agency when she opened up its can of worms
She speaks:”somebody told us that we should not
allow ourselves to be deceived as there was nothing wrong with the diesel
generator like we were erroneously made to believe”
“He told us that it was their boss that refused to give them the order to fill it and on it
for them to work”
“As a result of the aforementioned, a lot of man
hours had being lost by several
Nigerians as they waited several hours
to complete their documentation.
It was also discovered that as a result of the
delays in the issuance of the permanent or temporary identity card ,a woman who
could not be attended to and therefore had problems withdrawing cash from a
bank for the medical treatment of her husband lost the latter on the 17th
of May,2016 to the cold hands of death.
As at 1:30 P.M. on the 17th of
May,2016,a source told this reporter that GT Bank Plc was rejecting the cards from their customers because
of certain discrepancies they spotted in the registration .
As at 2:00 P.M.
on the same day ,a lot of Nigerians at the Identity Card Centre went
home disappointed as they were told that there had being a system crash of their
Information Technology infrastructural and telecommunication base.
As at press time ,things have only gotten worse
with over a million permanent identity cards spotted by a source inside the
outfit’s facility but the same has not being distributed to the owners for
reasons best known to the governmental agency .
