Although recognized all over the world as a multi -party democratic society, Nigeria is tilting towards a one party state in real terms.
Investigations by The News office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia Group in Lagos,Nigeria on the local polls conducted through-out Lagos state in Nigeria by the independent electoral commission in the states shows that only 5 political party were seen on the ballot papers in a particular ward at Ajilete area in Ifako-ijaiye and they were those of the Peoples Democratic Party[P.D.P],All Progressives Congress[A.P.C]Labor Party ,Alliance For Democracy and the Accord Party.
It was observed that there was a general feeling of apathy from the voters as they claimed that their votes was not going to count eventually hence they did not need to bother themselves in any way as the results had being pre-determined by the ruling party,A.P.C
A source who has been involved in grass roots politics revealed to this reporter that he was sure that the irregularities of the past in terms of voting still ruled the airwaves.
According to him,any of the favored candidates will have to work out a huge tranche of cash ranging from N500 million to N2Billion to settle the top officials of the state electoral agencies in line with the tradition in each election.
He showed this reporter at least 18 big buses which he claimed that the favored party would have smuggled in a lot of thugs to cause possible mayhem in any polling booth they discover they were not making any form of positive progress.
This reporter went to at least six different polling booths on the day of the local government polls with the rains falling at intervals..
It was also gathered that the PDP chieftain,Chief Olabode George gave out at least N10,000 to each ward throughout the state for officials to use to mobilize themselves for the local polls, however it was not immediately possible for this reporter as at press time to confirm whether the cash was collected by P.D.P or Labor Party officials as the latter were strongly believed to have a working agreement and alliance with the latter as at press time for the local polls throughout the state.
