Ortom, Dare ‘Alekwu’ Swem’ gods of
Tiv, Idoma Nations.
Benue State Governor Samue Ortom has
reaffirmed his earlier stand that his administration would not surrender to
forces of darkness no matter the pressure from whatever quarters.
Ortom
who spoke during the week at an interdenominational thanks giving service to
mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, for the fallen heroes, hend at NKST
Church, Iortyer, on Gboko Road in makurdi, organized by the Christian
Association of Nigeria (CAN) Benue State Chapter in coraberation with benue
state government noted that, it became necessary for Government to make
further clarity on comments from some quarters bothering on the Oath of office
for the new Tor Tiv where children of God were gathered most especially that he
had handed over the state to God on assumption of office.
He
said Tiv people should be reminded that their romance with ‘Swem’ the gods of Tiv and Alekwu that of
Idoma over the years had brought no benefits or developmental strides to the people
rather these gods are only known for bringing calamity to the land and the
people in the past.
Ortom
who was represented at the service by his Deputy Engr, Benson Abounu, observed
that the era of taking oath of office by traditional rulers after Alekwu and
Swem were over as both gods were only known for destruction through coursing
those who go against the Oath blind with others having swollen legs and stomach
resulting to eventual death, adding that the gods of Tiv and Idoma people had
never blessed any body describing them as wicked and government under his
administration will continue with the only true one God in all its dealings.
The
governor described the service as significant because of the fallen heroes
contributions towards the overall peace
enjoyed by all citizens and the corporate peaceful coexistence of the Nation.
According
to the governor, if not for the sacrifices and the love for father land demonstrated at
the all times by the fallen heroes and members of the armed forces still serving,
Nigeria and Nigerians would not be here today, they fought gallantry for the
sake of the nation.
He noted that in order to keep
the nation as one indivisible country, at different times the Armed Forces has
fought without food a situation witnessed recently in the Sambisa forest
against Boko Haram as well as exhibited high level of intelligence both at home
and in their fight against crime of all forms and at other international peace
missions around the world for peace to reign assuring that government at both
state and the federal will contribute to hold them in high esteem.

Ortom assured the senior citizens that government at both state and federal
government would continue to partner
with the ex service men to enable them leave
worth while lives.
