EYE OF THE STORM!!!!
THE CRUCIFIXION OF THE NIGERIAN PRESS
MR DAPO OLORUNYOMI IS THE FOUNDER OF PREMIUM TIMES
The Chicken has come home to
roost once more and we do hope that the media will learn some lessons from the
curent travails of hardworking and highly respected meda scholar and Founder of
The Premium Times,Mr Dapo Olorunyomi.
When we ran a social media
commentary asking the miliatry authourities to let him be and rather use the
arms of the law ,it was out of genuine concerns at the direction the Nigerian
press has headed:the bush.
Every where I go and I see
people talking about Nigeria especially the recession they blame their woes on
the press and they accuse us for coluding with the politicians and the
government officials to milk them dry but I can hardly defend our people
because we have not behaved up to the expected standards.
Having gone through the
reasons adduced by Mr Olrunyom for his arrests and harassment by the Nigerian
Army it
is easy to note that it is case of lacking in respect for the media instititution and the only thing that
could have caused this is our professional colleagues who sell cheap due to the
influence of money .
I equally read of a statement
credited to such discredited beat associations like the Nigerian Union of
Journalist,The Nigerian Guild Of Editors and I wonder where they both went to
when The Guardian ,The Nation and The Comet Newspapers went on fire, how sad
When we tell them to be
careful the way they collect cash and contracts from government officials they
think we do not know what we are saying but this is the ened results:disrespect
Mr. Olorunyomi has about 25 years
experience working as a reporter, editor, trainer, and manager in the media

Editor of the Year award.
