BY HENRY IBYA

Ter Gwer and Chairman, Gwer Traditional Council, HRH Dominic Ortserga Akpe has called on people of the state to take advantage of the empowerment efforts of the US African Outreach Foundation, which is out to emancipate them and form cooperative societies to access help.
The Ter Gwer made this call during a dinner party he organized for the Chief Executive Officer of US African Outreach Foundation, Rev. Godswill Uche Onokalah, a US based humanitarian service provider and minister of the gospel in his Makurdi residence yesterday.
The traditional ruler noted that with the dwindling economic fortunes of Nigeria at the moment, it was impossible for government alone to cater for the needs of her subjects hence, there was need for partnership with any private effort that will benefit the masses directly.
Earlier in his remarks, Rev. Onokalah described the Ter Gwer as a man of uncommon integrity, with a heart for his people and should be given the needed support by his subjects and the government to distill impact-laden leadership.
Rev. Onokalah explained that his mission in Benue and Nigeria in general was to identify cogent ways of intervention through which people of the state could be empowered and emancipated from the shackles of poverty.
The CEO who is based in the United States of America for over 3 decades stressed the need for Benue indigenes to form cooperative societies through which help could be given to them.
In their separate messages, Benue State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lawrence Onoja Jnr, Sole Administrator, Gwer Local Government Council, Comr. Benedict Achado and Mue Ter Ngyohov, HRH John Wunde praised the initiative of the US African Outreach Foundation in offering succour to the less privileged in the society and reiterated the support of the government at all levels in ensuring the programme succeeds in the state.
In his closing remark, Special Assistant to the Governor on Empowerment and Wealth Creation, Pastor Abraham Ayuba informed that the Benue State Government has already embraced the programme in view of its incalculable benefits to the state and urged the people to patronise the programme with a clear conscience as the Foundation was up to something good.
The event was graced by prominent sons and daughters of Masev provenance, as well as selected traditional rulers from Gwer while Vision Theatre Troupe owned by the Head of Department, Public Law, Benue State University, Makurdi, Assoc. Prof. Vitalis Vearumun Tarhule thrilled the guests with scintillating Tiv traditional dance steps.
