TIV NATIVES WARNED ON UTTERANCES AGAINST MONARCH
BY HENRY IBYA, MAKURDI
TRIBAL LEADERS OF TIV NATION AS THE PUT HEADS TOGETHER IN ELECTING A NEW MONARCH RECENTLY IN GBOKO,BENUE STATE
Tiv elites
both at home and in the Diaspora has been warmed to desist from comments
capable of undermining the selection and emergence of the Tor Tiv v HRM prof.
James Ortese Ayatse, in order not to attract the wrath of “swem” the god
of Tiv people, the forth largest tribe
in Nigeria.
A traditionalist
Dr. Isreal Akade, gave the warning while speaking in an exclusive chat with
daily stream, in Gboko weekend.
He was
according to him reacted to media reports that His Royal Majesty HRM Tor Tiv V
has accepted accommodation at Gboko in the House of a politician Senator George
Akume as well as those making unguided comments about the selection.
Dr.
Akade observed that there was no way the
new Tor who was a civil servant through out his life as a university
lecturer would have enough funds to build houses scattered across the state
including Gboko, the headquarters of Tiv nation and of course would not stay in
a hotel or rented apartment pending
complesion of renovation at the palace arguing that there was nothing
wrong with Senator Akume’s offer of a House as temporal arrangement to the new
Tor Tiv in Gboko.
However
those who were opposed to this arrangement but preferred to speak behind the camera alleged
that the Tor Tiv could dance to the tune of the senator and would therefore not
be fair to the people as expected of a father, but however advised that the decision of king makers in this is final and binding on
all sons and daughters of Tiv extraction, and therefore should be respected by
all
Dr.
Akade warmed that people should refrain from making comments regarding this
issue especially those using the cyber space to exposed the secret of Tiv tradition revealing that
“Swem” has already accepted His Royal Majesty’s selection.
In a
related development Chief Innocent Orbiam, in his views opined that even from
the new Tor Tiv’s background as a Christian, he must not completely relegates
Tiv culture to the background.
He said
Prof. Ayatse must be a Tiv man first and
foremost thereby not allowing the Tiv norms to play a second fiddle to western
norms.
According
to Chief Orbiam, this is important because the Royal Majesty is heading a
culture with its dynamics that are sometimes at variance with Christianity beliefs, therefore should remember to balance the two
bearing in mind that the subjects he would be presiding over are believers and
non believers.
Orbiam,
further observed that the Tor Tiv was coming on the throne at a difficult time
when the Tiv Nation is facing a lot of challenges but noted that he must
provide an umbrella big enough to cover the entire Tiv people all over the
world irrespective of political or religious associations and work towards
uniting Tiv Nation for development.
Dr.
Akade on the other hand advised the new Tor Tiv that there should be a
difference between tradition and religion so that the secrets of Tiv Tradition
would not be exposed too much to strangers in the name of religion.
