New Speaker of Colombian Lower House Reaffirms ‘Full Support’ for Moroccan Territorial Integrity

The new speaker of the Colombian House of Representatives, Germán Alcides Blanco Álvarez, reaffirmed, Wednesday in Bogota, his "full support" for the supreme interests of Morocco, in particular the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

Germán Blanco reiterated his position supporting the national cause of Morocco during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Colombia, Farida Loudaya, during which the two parties discussed several issues of common interest, in particular the means to develop bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

It should be recalled in this regard that the Colombian official, who was one of the many MPs who signed the resolution adopted on December 5, 2018 by the Colombian Congress supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco, said in his capacity as spokesperson for the Colombian parliamentary delegation which visited Morocco from February 23 to March 2, 2019, that "the support and respect for the territorial integrity of a friendly country is the minimum that we can do towards a strategic ally like Morocco".

During his talks with Ms. Loudaya, held at the headquarters of the Moroccan embassy, the new speaker of the Colombian House of Representatives also expressed his strong determination to give new impetus to the already exemplary cooperation relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

Mr. Germán Blanco, recently elected speaker of the Lower House for the 2020-2021 legislative period, also expressed his deep admiration for the numerous reforms and major infrastructure projects carried out in Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whom he had the opportunity to see first-hand during the working visit he made to Morocco, with his country's parliamentary delegation.

During this meeting, Ms. Farida Loudaya and Mr. Germán Blanco expressed their deep satisfaction with cooperation between the two countries, which have gained in depth and have been considerably enriched and diversified thanks to a regular and constructive political dialogue and a common will to continue consolidating the exceptional partnership binding the two countries in several areas.

The two parties also underlined the active contribution of parliamentary cooperation in the positive dynamic that has marked bilateral relations over the past few years, in particular through the reactivation and expansion of the parliamentary friendship group in September 2019, the frequent exchange of visits between the parliamentary delegations of the two countries and the development of institutionalized cooperation through the signing of the memorandum of understanding in February 25, 2019 between the houses of Representatives of the two countries.

They also underlined the importance of increasing inter-parliamentary coordination on issues of common interest, as well as support for all initiatives aimed at strengthening the distinguished relations between the two friendly peoples.
