INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: IPC CALLS
ON THE MEDIA TO GIVE MORE VOICE TO WOMEN
The International Press Centre IPC,
Lagos-Nigeria has enjoined the Nigerian media to give more voice to women so
that they could be bolder in contributing to the country’s development.
Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre
Arogundade made the call in a statement today (March 8, 2017) to mark the 2017
International Women’s Day, which celebrates the achievements of women in all
spheres of life.
“On this day, we at IPC are calling
on the Nigeria media to address the imbalance in the coverage of women so that
their true voices could be heard in politics, elections, governance and
development”, he said.
According to the IPC Director, by so
doing the Nigerian media would contribute to the processes that will lead to
the realization of this year’s theme: “Women in the changing world of work:
Planet 50-50 by 2030”.
Mr. Arogundade also called on the
media to exercise professional and ethical discretion in reporting issues of
violence against women, particularly the girl child, in order to prevent
stigmatization and other negative social consequences.
