Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara on Friday urged religious Leaders in Nigeria to shun partisan politics and engage in sermons that will sustain good governance in the country..
He gave this charge while declaring open two second National Conference of the Nasirulahi Faithi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) holding in IIorin, the Kwara capital.
The Governor who described religious Leaders as significant to the peaceful co-existence of the nation urged them not to play politics with their preaching’s.
According to him, better egalitarian society can be achieved if more preaching is centered on good governance and accountability.
"Religion Leaders should shun partisan and concentrate their sermons on good governance and good ideals", Ahmed added.
Governor Ahmed praised the foresight of NASFAT for its religion propagation since its establishment 18 years ago and urged other religion organizations to emulate the Society.
He similarly praised the Philanthropic gesture of the Society which he said has assisted several less privileged in the Society.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar in his remark urged Nigerians to tolerate one another regardless of religions or ethnic background.
This the monarch noted that more development could be attained in the Country
The Sultan attributed various challenges facing Nigeria to lack of love and unity among the People and urged Nigerians to love one another.
The monarch urged Nigerian Leaders to treat their followers equally regardless of the platform of the Political Party that brought them to power.
The theme Speaker of the Conference, Mallam Yussuf OlaOlu Ali, (SAN) who was represented by Prof Whab Egbewole stressed the need for National Unity among Nigerians.
In his remark, the National President of NASFAT, Alhaji Sherif Yussuf said the National Conference is aimed at allowing NASFAT Members in Nigeria and three other continents identify one another to exchange ideas.
He said the Society which was founded over 18 years ago can boast of 316 locations in Nigeria.
Yussuf said the Society will continue to embark on activities that would correct social ills in the Society and assist the less privileged.
Our correspondent reports that the opening of the Conference attracted by several eminent Personalities from all walks of life including the representative of Kwara Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Sam Ayoola.
