U.A.C NIGERIA PLC SOLD NIGERIA FOR
865,000 POUNDS
STERLING IN 1800S
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU.
LORD FREDRICK LUGARD KNEW ABOUT THE DEAL THAT BROUGHT ABOUT THE TRANSACTIONS
If you are one of
those that still think that the reasons why the colonialists came to Nigeria
was for the sake of democracy then you will have to have a rethink based on a
recent reality check.
In an exclusive investigations by the News Office Desk of
Paedia Express Multimedia in Lagos.Nigeria in an interview with the Chief
Executive Officer of Sunbird African Media Limited,Mr Richard Mammah said that
Nigeria as a nation was an excellent real estate business which was sold
by the Board and management of Royal Niger Company to her majesty The Queens Great Britain for a
then princely sum of 865,000 pounds sterling which was still a huge amount of
money even by that periods standards..
Mr Mammah,a seasoned journalist turned media tycoon while discussing his ground breaking literary
masterpiece titled :who will save my children.
He went down memory lane and recalled that during a press
interview with a former Chief Executive Officer of U.A.C Nigeria Plc now in retirement
,he had jokingly asked him how he felt about being the owner of Nigeria in the
past ,the technocrat simply shrugged his shoulders and in a terse reply said
that they were proud to have being associated with the Nigerian story.
His words:they may not have known that Nigeria was going to be a massive
success story later on but they saw the potentials but even what they paid for at the time was a
fortune”
“for you to be allowed into a nation then you will have to
go in sovereignty and that is why Royal Niger had to be in Charter by the
British in 1861,so when they came they then put their flag as Royal Niger
Company as it was not the Brits that came first but the
Royal Niger company “
“When they now wanted to handle the issue of amalgamation of
the land ,it was easy for
transaction to be take place as they were actually holding it in trust
for Britain”
“Royal Niger company officials now decided to recommend Lord Fredrick Lugard
who had worked for them
previously at an overseas location”
Mammah one of Nigeria’s newspaper greats also recalled
that Shell B.P. actually started prospecting for crude oil in
Nigeria in 1908 and then later resumed
in 1938 and then finally discovered
oil in 1958 while throwing a jab
at the political class as he added that Shell Nigeria actually knew the nation more than some politicians now parading
themselves as grand masters in the land.
Paedia Express Multimedia can also disclose that this piece is also contained in a special documentary by Mr Jide Olanrewaju now in circulation..
