Despite shortage of funds made
available to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, it has recorded about 65% budget
implementation in almost the departments and parastatals under its supervision.
Five Directors generals including
that of the institute of Peace and conflicts resolution, that of the Nigeria
institute of international affairs, technical cooperation in Africa and
Technical Aid Academy as well as Foreign Service Academy, told the acting Minister
Prof. Viola Onwuliri during and interactive session in Abuja that this was made
possible with the support of the retired Ambassadors and government.
In a break down they said personnel
cost stood at 100% salaries were promptly paid as well as over head of all the
parastatals standing at 100% while capital release was at 50%
implementation adding that on the whole the general implementation would be put
at 70%.
In her reaction after the
interactive session while addressing diplomatic reporters the minister Prof.
Viola Onwuliri said it was the first time she was receiving briefing
from the heads of the parastatals after the change of guards that
was announced by President Goodluck Jonathan last month.
She described the interactive
session as important maintaining that it will afford both herself and the heads
of parastatals the opportunity to share knowledge and information as well as
identify challenges and proffer possible solutions that if adopted will move
the ministry forward.
The minister lamented that a
development where some staff of the ministry in the past did not know their
Directors at the headquarters was not healthy adding that more effective
coordination is needed for better service delivery and proper accountability to
enable president Goodluck Jonathan achieve his dream of transforming the
nation.
She also added that the interactive
session would afford the ministry know where they are, what the ministry is
doing for issues to the discussed between the staff and the management for the
purpose of progress of the ministry.
