65 pecent of budget implemented by Nigerian government by Henry Ibya,Abuja





Despite shortage of funds made available to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, it has recorded about 65% budget implementation in almost the departments and parastatals under its supervision.

Five Directors generals including that of the institute of Peace and conflicts resolution, that of the Nigeria institute of international affairs, technical cooperation in Africa and Technical Aid Academy as well as Foreign Service Academy, told the acting Minister Prof. Viola Onwuliri during and interactive session in Abuja that this was made possible with the support of the retired Ambassadors and government.

In a break down they said personnel cost stood at 100% salaries were promptly paid as well as over head of all the parastatals standing at 100%  while capital release was at 50% implementation adding that on the whole the general implementation would be put at 70%.

In her reaction after the interactive session while addressing diplomatic reporters the minister Prof. Viola Onwuliri said it was the first time she was receiving briefing   from the heads of the parastatals after the change of guards that was announced by President Goodluck Jonathan last month.

She described the interactive session as important maintaining that it will afford both herself and the heads of parastatals the opportunity to share knowledge and information as well as identify challenges and proffer possible solutions that if adopted will move the ministry forward.

The minister lamented that a development where some staff of the ministry in the past did not know their Directors at the headquarters was not healthy adding that more effective coordination is needed for better service delivery and proper accountability to enable president Goodluck Jonathan achieve his dream of transforming the nation.

She also added that the interactive session would afford the ministry know where they are, what the ministry is doing for issues to the discussed between the staff and the management for the purpose of progress of the ministry.
