Global para-military and voluntary organization ,World Scout Movement
recently rounded up activities marking its founders day:Lord Robert
Stephenson Badden-Powell.
Investigations by Paedia Express
Multimedia in Lagos showed that the celebrations actually started
recently with the opening up of a state camp exercise by the Lagos State
scout Council at the African Church College of Education Compound along
the busy Ifako-Ijaiye Road on the 21st February,2014.
It was
gathered that the same ritual was taking place about the same time in
various state scout council nationwide and around the world
simultaneously.
When Paedia Express Multimedia visited the camp
site for facts finding,it was discovered that make shift camping bags of
25 in lemon green, greenish and bluish colour were seen dotting the
school compound with at least 160 people celebrating in the camp.
Members of the voluntary movement seen at the camp site by The
Difference ranged from able bodied adults men and women, children and
toddlers as well.
Big fire place made up of wood and other
materials that could easily give way to fire was later created with
scout members surrounding it at around 8:00 P.m local time as they sang
various melodious song to mark the fiesta.
It was later learnt
albeit exclusively that a big camp meeting for the state chapter was
going to take place in Imota around late July to the early part of
August,2014.
Paedia Express saw a parent drive into the compound of
African Church College of Education at around and 9:00 p.m. local time
to do a last minute check up on her children who were celebrating with
their friends and colleagues all through the night over the life and
times of Badden powell.
Lord Stephenson Robert Badden Powell, a
Lieutanant General of the British Army started the scout Movement almost
a century ago and till this day even his descendants identify with the
movement.
He died and was buried in Kenya in East Africa ,a place that served as his last official service point before his death.
Paedia Epress Multimedia discovered at the event marking the founders
day recently that scouts all over the world usually shake hands with
each other using the left hands as this is where the human heart
resides.
According to them ,the cultural landmark became rooted in
their culture due to peace pact signed by the founder and a Kenyan
tribal chief during a time of war and strife.
A source noted that if a man truly gives you his heart then it means that he can be trusted at all times.
Spiritual dedication ceremonies was held in the Church on Sunday and
mosque on Friday before the fiesta was rounded up with a parade at the
African Church Primary School.
The National Training Commissioner
of the Nigeria Scout Federation ,Chief Sunday Lawrence Ogunyale used the
occasion to extol the good virtues of the founder of the movement while
enjoining others to copy from such lofty ideals in their lifetime.
In a related issue,The Lagos State Scout Commissioner, Chief J.O.Tawoshe
used the event to dwell on the importance of the last speech of Lord
Badden Powell to our national life at a time Nigeria was at a cross road
.
He paraphrased the founder:”I have had a most happy life and I
want each one of you to have as happy a life too,I believe that God put
us in this jolly world to be happy and enjoy life ,happiness does not
come from being rich nor merely from being successful in your career nor
by self indulgence ,one step towards happiness is to make yourself
healthy and strong while you are a boy so that you can be useful and so
can enjoy life when you are a man”
