GOVT URGED TO MOVE TO RECLAIM NIGERIAN AIRWAYS ASSETS
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU.
NIGERIAN AIRWAYS WAS THE NATION'S NUMBER ONE BRAND AND NATIONAL PRIDE BEFORE IT WENT DOWN UNDER
Chief Mrs Mary Agbeyegbe ,Wife of the slain global aviation activist, the Late
Captain Jerry Agbeyegbe of blessed memory has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of
urgency and an issue of urgent national concern do everything within his powers
to reclaim every stolen assets of the now moribund Nigerian Airways .
In a world exclusive chat at her Lagos residence with The
News office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia Group in Lagos,Nigeria ,upon the
anniversary of her husband's death,Agbeyegbe's widow said that there was no
time that she drove past what used to be the corporate Head offices of The
Nigerian Airways at the Muritalla Mohammed International Airports in Lagos
,Nigeria ,that she does not weep in her spirit at the deliberate steps taken by
several unscrupulous Nigerians at ripping off the state of its key assets.
She affirmed that Nigerian Airways ,if allowed to survive
will as at today be one of the richest concerns either public or private as two
third of the real estate and properties of the old Government Reservations Area
[G.R.A]in ikeja,Lagos where landed properties were worth over N1Billion was
actually owned by the Nigerian Airways.
She stated that even the land said to belong to the
management of the Ikeja Golf Course was
actually that of the Nigerian Airways and wondered why the Federal Government
was watching while it was being fleeced off prime real estate assets .
She urged the government to leave no stone unturned in unraveling
the mysteries of what took place at the Nigerian Airways as she wondered why a
brand that was being envied by fellow operators like Ethiopian Airlines, Kenyan
Airways was now in limbo.
She recalled that a lot of Niger Deltan activists had been
calling for some sorts of post humus
award or immortalization of her late husband for his laudable contributions to
Nigeria and global aviation with plans for the renaming of the Shell Airports
at Usigbe in Delta State after him but
for the host communities who do not see the importance.
She went down memory lane to recall with pains mixed with
nostalgia about how her husband was killed after 29 bullets were pumped into
him in broad day light in the city of Lagos several years ago ,saying that
though it was painful at the way her
husband's life was cut short in his prime at 49 years but quickly added that God
has sustained the family Mr Jerry Agbeyegbe left behind.
