ORTOM ASSURES GOVERNMENT COMMITMENT
TO CLEAR WORKERS SALARIES
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom yesterday said his government is
committed to finding a lasting solution to the issue of salaries in the state.
The Governor stated this in Gbajimba
during a town hall meeting in Guma local Government held in Gbajimba, the local
government headquarters.
Represented by the House of
Representative Member representing Makurdi/Guma federal constituency Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, the governor said even though the state was still
battling with payment of salaries, his administration has done a lot in other
areas such as agriculture, security, education and particularly charged the
people to embrace agriculture which the state has a comparative advantage.
Speaking separately, Mr Mike Iordye
admonished the people of Guma to be careful and avoid being mislead by antics
of the opposition about 2019 general election. He maintained that precedence of
two terms in Benue politics must not be tempered with, given reference that it
was not because of their excellent performances that Akume and Suswam were
voted in first and second term respectively.
Mr. Mike Iordye however lamented on
the challenges of successive administration’s inability to offset salaries
owing to the fact that Benue State Government has a fat wage bill due to the
civil service density and duplicated institutions of learning citing the case
of Lagos as one of the biggest state with only one state own collage of
education and Polytechnic.
Also in his speech, Hon. Dickson
Tarkighir, member Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency who also spoke in his
capacity thanked the people of Guma for the support he has so far enjoyed from
them and sued for greater synergy to attract more democratic dividends from the
government of governor Samuel Ortom and his representation.
Displaying his scorecards within two
years as a representative, he informed the people that he was able to influence
projects which include: reconstruction of Abinsi-Tyulen road with construction
of a bridge across the river which has being included in the 2018 project,
construction of classroom blocks across Makurdi/Guma, construction of a town
hall at Abinsi in Guma, facilitates employment of over 25 constituents in
Makurdi/ Guma and sponsorship of bills which include the Prohibition of open
grazing and livestock promotion among several others respectively.
In their reactions, Elder Vanger
Iyohon, who spoke for Nongov people thanked the people for coming out in their
numbers to grace the meeting and reassured the governor of their unwavering
support on his 2019 bid. He further unfolded the situation of rain drop in the
dry season at the endorsement of Samuel Ortom as the candidate in 2014 where
he, Elder Jerome Hwande, Elder John Azulor and Elder Sylvanus Agabgbe did the
rituals, describing governor Samuel Ortom as a child of divine providence.
On his part, Elder John Azulo who
spoke for Ihyarev people in Guma thanked governor Ortom for his efforts of
changing the fortunes of the state and assured the governor of their total
support come 2019 , insisting that there can’t be a duplicate of blessing as
their son Samuel Ortom have already received their blessings. He added that,
Elder Jerome Hwande, he and Elder Vanger Iyohon all needed to meet with their
son governor Ortom for an in house discussion as elders.
In his fatherly disposition and
advice, HRH Chief Ivokor Unongo, the Ter Guma thanked the people for answering
the call and advice them for a greater turn up should their be need for another
call of this kind.
In a vote of thanks, Hon. Johnathan
Gbe who is the APC Chairman of Guma Local Government thank the people for
honouring their invitation for the town hall meeting and reaffirms their
readiness as party men in the governing party for 2019 as they have seen
governor Samuel Ortom’s determination in turning around the fortunes of the
state.
