One
principal reason why some of us stood for the African Continental Free
Trade Agreement, AfCFTA even when the nation was unsure is because of
our knowledge of the reality that at its
base, economics is a contact sport. You do not grow GDP by
postulating, you do so by touching. And you touch by stretching from
where you are out into the world.
From this position, your neighbour is your first potential client.
At the moment, our continental trade quantum is put by the AFDB at 12.7
percent. It is even more disappointing at the ECOWAS level where it is
a mere 3.7 per cent. For the experts saddled with driving our AfCFTA
process, this is where to begin. We should grow our ECOWAS area trade
to 15 per cent and continental trade to 40 per cent in the next 5 years.
It is doable. #Nigeriadeservesbetter. #Africadeservesbetter
