OVER 40,000 STUDENTS NOW AT UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ,LEGON

Co –educational tertiary institutional giant, University of
Ghana ,Legon has about 40,000 students in its various campus in the former Gold
Coast as it begins its 2015,2016 academic session in August shortly.
In an investigations conducted recently it was discovered
exclusively by the News Office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia that total
enrollment in 2012 and 2013 sessions alone was put at 38,586.
In a pamphlet provided to this reporter through the schools public affairs Directorate at the
Ghana Deputy High Commission in Lagos,Nigeria,it was reliably gathered that in
2013 academic calendar alone there were
1,775 undergraduates offering sub
degree courses which accounted for 4.60
percent of the student enrollment data.
The public Affairs Directorate of the highly respected
citadel of learning also affirmed that the school had in the same period a population
of 31,75 as its undergraduate ,which was about 82.30 percent of its student enrollment
.
The university graduated about 5,056 students thus representing
13.10 percent in the same corresponding period.
In the same corresponding period,the school enrolled a
student population of 15,996 represnting 41.46 percent of the enrollment for
female students.
The school also enrolled 22,590 male students representing 58.54
percent of student enrollment for 2012 and 2013 academic calendar .
The university with campuses in Legon,Accra and Korle- Bu was
established as a university college of
Ghana on attainment of independence that
year by an Act of Parliament, the University got an autonomous status to award
its own degrees in 1961.
In the 2014 and 2015 academic calendar just ended ,the university
has adopted the collegiate system of management
in the running of its academic units.
The reform is aimed at enhancing efficiency and making university
administration more effective than previously.
The various academic units have been organized into four
colleges namely: College of Basic and Applied Sciences, College of Health
Sciences, College of Education and College of Humanities .
The school organizes lectures annually ,for example The
Aggrey –Fraser –Guggisberg Memorial Lectures held annually was initiated in
1957 to commemorate the contributions made by the
founding of Achimota College.
The University has about 16 Halls of residence for its
students.
