Mercy Corps Nigeria is thrilled to invite you to apply to participate in a 
3-day 'Hate Speech Hackathon', Nov 27 to Nov 29, Lagos.

Hate Speech in Nigeria is a complex problem, and with the elections coming up in 2019, it’s an increasingly dangerous one. Tackling it requires outside-the-box and collaborative thinking from people with a range of perspectives on its causes, multipliers, and consequences.  
The 'Hate Speech Hackathon' an opportunity to lead cutting edge thinking around hate speech in Nigeria. We are inviting journalists, civil society activists, social media influencers, tech experts, peace and conflict experts, and anyone else with a great idea, to apply to be part of a time-limited competition between different problem solving teams, with the goal of developing an innovative, implementable and scalable project (not necessarily tech-based) that responds to the problem of hate speech in Nigeria.
There is a cash prize of $2000 for the winning team (to be split evenly between team members), and the winning idea will be have the chance to be piloted by Mercy Corps Nigeria.

SPACES ARE LIMITED AND THE APPLICATION PROCESS IS COMPETITIVE. We will be looking to select teams and individuals that can demonstrate ideas, experience, commitment and motivation.
