TWO HORSE RACE

A Lagos state based non -governmental and profit based organization, The Yoruba Self Determination Advancement Forum [YOSEDAF] has declared that against the background of recent political developments within the state,the body has decided to throw its full weights behind the candidature of Mr Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party [P.D.P.]in the race for who governs the affairs of the state in 2019.
At a packed hall at the Lagos Airport Hotels in Ikeja, Lagos ,Nigeria,the body insisted that it was time that the people work their talk and as such will not sit back and allow some few individuals to be dictating the pace of who rule the affairs of the entire state as against the collective will of the people.
The body noted that with the advent of civil democracy in the land in 1999 ,the people of the state had 100 percent expectations that they were going to reap from an expected democratic dividends but quickly added that this has not being the case due to varying starvation in a lot of people's lives .
The body lamented what it called the pauperization of the people in the name of urban renewal while also disagreeing with the destruction of community market facilities and outright expropriation with concomitant primitive accumulation of wealth in the hands of a handful few.
The body found it strange at the poor attention being paid to public education by the current state leadership even with the All Progressives Congress controlled state government continuing to use free education as some kind of mantra.
It speaks:"for the genuine and established industrialists and businessmen ,cut throat taxes and levies and multiple taxation have suddenly turned seasoned commercial magnates to perpetual debtors who cannot meet their targets and are in constant fear of insolvency ,total bankruptcy and the debtors jail"
"From the foregoing,there is no gainsaying the fact that Lagos state needs a new lease of life ,there is the need for something refreshingly different in the Lagos atmosphere ,just as the weak and slippery ground created by the greed of the few who have become corrupted absolutely by absolute power must be regained and made firm again for the good of all and sundry"
The body insisted that it was overly concerned about the direction the affairs of the state was drifting and that it was high time some very distinguished Nigerians still very active in their political prime does something to help in its rescue.
The body added that it endorsed Mr Jimi Kolawole Agbaje due to his ancestry ,enviable pedigree, disciplined nature, consistency ,fearless nature and the love he has for people of the grass roots in all ramifications .
