BREXIT AFFAIR!!U.K. MUST STRENGTHEN COMMERCIAL
AGRICULTURE
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU
To leave the European Union or to stay in it,well
the die is cast and now several public affairs commentators around the world
are saying that irrespective of whatever happens ,commercial agriculture should
be taken very seriously by the United Kingdom..
In an exclusive chat with The News office Desk of
the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia Group of Lagos,Nigeria ,Chief Sunday
Ogunyale who spent three years in Nottingham as a post graduate student in the
early 1980 s noted that his knowledge of farming in the United Kingdom based on
that period's indices was that the
Island nation was very strong in dairy and poultry farming.
He recalled that they had access to pasteurized milk
and normal milk during his student days with both good enough to quench a man's
hunger at a time.
He admitted that he was not aware if the United
Kingdom produced so much of crops as most of these may not be able to grow in
the place due to the climate hence the nation is forced to spend so much on
importation.
In a related issue,The Nigerian educationist but
British born,Mrs Annette Adeoba while speaking on the matter noted with dismay
at the fact that the United kingdom does not in any way produce all that she
needs in agriculture as it makes do with a lot of importation.
Analysts are now thinking that perhaps The United
Kingdom can synergize with other developmental partners and nations to move
forward ,Brexit or no Brexit!!
The powerful Island nation can buy up large expanse
of land in overseas nations which could help to buoy her agro commodity
capacity such that they can have enough of tropical and temperate crops while
at the same time being availed with the opportunity of having its own nationals
as workers in the commercial farming enterprise so established.
In a related issue,The Chief Executive officer of
The Premier Newspapers ,Mr Babatunji Ismaila Wusu said that no African farmer
could compete favourably with any of his European counterparts due to the
incentives available to the latter and as a result the farmer works under a regime
that is highly subsidized .
He recalled that this was what Dr Abubakar Bukola
Saraki ,The Current President of the Nigeria Senate tried to do when he invited
the Zimbabwean farmers to Kwara State during his tenure as a Governor for the
former to establish her presence after been sent packing by Former President
Robert Mugabe .
He assured that if the United Kingdom does
eventually leave The European Union [E.U.],the implications are very dear as
every citizen will now have to pay for every form of services it gets
