The Government of Colombia has praised Morocco’s autonomy plan offered for the resolution of the Sahara regional conflict, commending the serious Moroccan efforts recognized by the UN in its various resolutions adopted on this issue.
“Colombia welcomes the Moroccan autonomy plan unveiled in 2007 to reach a political, realistic, lasting and consensual solution to this regional dispute,” said on Friday in Rabat Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo.
Speaking to journalists after meeting his peer Nasser Bourita, the Colombian top diplomat said his country supports the efforts engaged by the United Nations to achieve a “just, enduring and mutually acceptable political solution” to the Sahara conflict.
During his visit to Morocco, Mr. Trujillo also conferred with Head of Government Saâd Dine El Otmani who thanked the Government of Colombia for supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its autonomy plan for the Sahara.
The two sides praised the convergence of views of the two countries on several international issues including the fight against extremism, terrorism and climate change.
They also discussed ways of boosting bilateral economic, cultural and sports cooperation, urging the Colombian and Moroccan private sectors to seize the huge business opportunities offered in both countries.
