INSIDE NIGERIAN PRISONS,DEATH MEANS PAROLE

Nigerian Prisons which is supposed to
serve as a corrective centre to stem out social ills among which includes criminality
and juvenile delinquency more often than not make prisoners to be more deadly
when they are released .
In an exclusive investigations by
Paedia Express Multimedia on the subject in Lagos,Nigeria it was discovered
that more activities outside the law were happening within the four walls of
the Nigerian prison system than actually known by the public.
An impeccable source who is a
serving Assistant Superintendent of Police [A.S.P]in the Nigerian Police Force
told this reporter that the Nigerian prisons were in a terrible shape.
He explained that prison officials ,prisoners
and other vested interests outside always conspire to forge a common front to
promote criminal activities so long as money exchanged hands.
He revealed that he knew people who
were serving various jail terms for one crime or the other but who were running
organized business and crime cartels from prison.
He recalled that while he was
working as an Aide De Camp to the Chief Executive officer of a Nigerian Pharmaceutical
marketing firm, a Nigerian Senator had brought in dead prisoners he had used for political thuggery activities to
there compound.
According
to him it was in the course of there investigations as to where the corps came
from that they discovered that the dead bodies were actually prisoners serving
various jail terms in Nigerian prisons for one crime or the other.
His words:”criminals are recruited
by people from outside the prisons to be used for organized crimes like shipment
of hard drugs ,credit card scams, armed robbery ,prostitution ,kidnapping,rituals,homicides
like murder, manslaughter”
“There is also an entrenched high
level of discrimination in the Nigerian prisons systems, only the rick enjoy
the conjugal while commoners in prison will have to wallow in self pity”
“the poor level of hygiene
,ventilation of the Nigerian prisons apart from proper welfare for the inmates
is well documented in the annals of time”
Already feelers suggests that there
were secret killings within the cells of
the notorious Special Anti robbery squad,[S.A.R},a detachment of the Nigerian
Police Command in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria as at press time.
