PAEDIA EXPRESS:I.C.C DENIES BUHARI HONOUR
BY ABDULMUMINI ADEKU
The international Criminal Courts of Justice at The
Hague,Netherlands while trying to save its name
and face has tried as at press time to clarify a satire written by The
Editorial and Policy Board of the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia Group of
Lagos,Nigeria in which the foremost jurists were accused of compromising on
ethical standards despite the full knowledge of on-going killings in Northern
Nigeria ,herdsmen crisis in the Midlands ,the unexplained disappearance of
Nnamdi Kanu and his family by the Federal Government of Nigeria among other
begging security questions as at press time.
The body insisted that its invitations of President
Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria as its guest and key note speaker at its recently
held 20 th year anniversary at The Hague,Netherlands should not be equated to
that of an endorsement of the latter's political ambition.
The News office Desk of the E.N.M.Paedia Express Multimedia
Group of Lagos,Nigeria while cross examining a cross section of members of the
Nigerian public on the highly vexing matter was told by Nigerians that they
were all left very stunned by I.C.C.'s show of insensitivity to the plight of
suffering Nigerians who were victims of Boko Haram's killer squad or Fulani
Herdsmen sword strikes .
They also rapped the I.C.C
for turning the blind eye to
several cases of incessant land grabbing, vandalization of public properties
and killings by the Herdsmen.
Most Nigerians also took exceptions to efforts being made by
the Buhari regime to embark on a forceful image laundering campaign viz-a-viz
,his emergence as The Chairman of the Economic Community of West African
State[E.C.O.W.A.S],saying that even a suckling infant knew that Nigeria
virtually owned the agency and that there was nothing special about her
producing its chairman anymore as several Nigerians had chaired it before.
Nigerian also added that E.C.O.W.A.S. was an indirect Federal
Government of Nigeria's public sector based parastatal and therefore the entire
nation should disregard the mileage and consider it as an effort to hoodwink
rather than the true reality of things on ground.
A Federal legislator: Abdulmumini Jubrin recently stoked
fire when he went viral with insinuations that Buhari was endorsed by the
International Criminal Courts of Justice thus leading to his invitations for
there 20 years fiesta
But ICC spokesperson, Fadi El
Abdallah in an email exchange via the Public Affairs unit of the court with a section of the press seeks to explain :“The
International Criminal Court (“ICC” or the “Court”) is not involved in any
integrity or background check of world leaders,”
He added that it
has been standard practice for the ICC to invite Heads of State one at a time
for certain high-level events, such as anniversary commemorations but also the
opening of the judicial year, adding that “this is because of logistical and
protocol reasons involved in hosting dignitaries at that level”.
He also disclosed
that other heads of state have been invited and have participated in high level
events organised by the Court in the past, stressing that President Buhari was
invited as keynote speaker for the commemorations of the 20th anniversary.
El Abdallah said
President Buhari was not the only leader invited to the event but that ‘Nigeria
was the only State represented by its President’. He added that more than
30 other States were represented at the level of national Senates and Parliaments
chiefs, as well as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice.
The presidency
declined to confirm or refute the claim.
‘Ask the man who
told you,’ the spokesman of the president, Femi Adesina said.
We have reached
out to Jibrin to clarify his claim and tell us his source but no response yet.
