If there ever was a soldier then this has to be the ultimate
warrior ,whenever an account of soldiers are laid bare this man will stand tall
among his peers.
He is Nigerian Christendom’s answer to Abubakar
Shekau,leader of Boko Haram .In a nation where others are looking for
inspiration this man just gets the job done without batting an eye lid.
He has stayed true to his calling ,a true Ambassador of his master,
the Lord Jesus Christ, his life is the stuff legends are made up of ,as a
modern day church reformer comes to life at a time the flocks and there
shepherds have been scattered by the enemy.
Save for heresy,this man’s life would have warranted an
addition to the scriptures as eh is the mirror image of his messages.
He seems to say in an unspoken manner;”if I perish, I perish
“just like the biblical Haddassah[Esther}
He is the last bastion of hope for the faithful s as where
others dare to thread he asks for more like the proverbial Oliver Twist ,he is
simply put: the last man standing.
He is nota showman
like some of his peers ,neither does he move around in private jets
around the world while the rest of his flocks goes home hungry but he has had a
profound effect on humanity as he gets the job done effectively.
Ladies and Gentlemen; this is the story of a man simply and affectionately
called Brother Gbile Akanni ,the Programme Coordinator of Peace House Christian
Fellowship Group in Gboko, Benue State.
A lot of Nigerian Soldiers in the battle against Boko Haram
have been either killed or bribed to compromise but this Brother Gbile Akanni
has neither compromised nor gotten killed as he continues to use the Holy Bible
as his key weapon to evade the demons at Sambissa Forest and the Fulani herdsmen
waging war against the minorities in the
middle belt region of Nigeria over the grazing rights of their cattle.
This reporter has the rare privilege of working with the
younger brother to Gbile Akanni,Dr Wale who is a veterinary medical doctor during the National Youth Service Corp orientation
exercise in Mallam Sidi Village,Gombe State in 2000 and this chanced meeting
opened up the kind of person this great war general was in his closet at the
time.
He was said to be a thoroughbred Christian who believes in
ministering or preaching about holiness
all the time,he is said to spend at least the first three hours of the day when
he wakes up to observe a special prayer called quiet time in Pentecostal Christian
circles.
Despite carrying the presence of God always he does not have
a full blown church,he has trained a lot of disciples who talk and preach like
him,an example of this is Brother Pik Onwochei.
Even some of his peers despise him as they claim that with the
way he preaches,who will then make the Biblical heaven anyway but he is always quick
to add that with men it may seems impossible but with God all things are
possible.
Each time he preaches
a message on the pulpit he emits edifying fire as Christians,Bishops,Reverends,
Apostles,Deacons,superintendents,non-christains either rededicate there lives
to God or become truly born again as he has no time to toy with the issue of
salvation.
His Bible is the shield from the enemies as he ministers healing
to the sick and the dead while using his Peace House in Gboko, Benue State to
ferry food, medical supplies ,clothing’s to victims of the orgy of violence in
the North irrespective of creed or tribe.
Like his master:Jesus Christ,who paryed for his captors at crucifixion,
Brother Gbile Akanni prays for forgiveness of sins and genuine repentance for Boko
Haram members who abandon violence to seek God.
Recently,Paedia Express Multimedia challenged a pastor who
claimed in the past of been a missionary ,when he will travelling to the troubled
North Eastern region of Nigeria for deliverance and set the captives free and
he answered in terse reply
His words:”I have to listen to God and until he speaks to me
I cannot go to Maiduguri to face Boko Haram”,this reporter then fired him
another salvo:”But the same God inspires you to collect tight and offering, why
is it that it is when it is sweet that God speaks to you”and of course we ended
it with laughter but the points had been made be this reporter.
Gbile Akanni has seen it all in the North east Mission field:
disemboweled corpse, decaying corpse, charred remains of burnt corpse, slit
throats, beheaded corpse, mass graves,epidemy and above all mental torture of
seeing all the orgy of evil but like Jonah the prophet of God who was swallowed
by a fish eh has continued to defy the odds.
The only document hated by Boko Haram ,the Holy Bible ,which
makes them to wage war on western education is what he carries around as a
weapon yet he does not have agun,bow and arrow or even own an armored tank like
the opposition but has continued top prevail.
As soldiers continue to duck for bullets and bombs of Boko
Haram,this man seen by the opposition as a terrorist because of his message continues
to stand to the glory of God almighty till this day as a hero the faith.
