CAMEROON:MACRON’S WIN CLIP’S BIYA’S OVERGROWN WINGS

The overgrown wings of Cameroonian President ,Mr Paul Biya will appear to have being widely clipped by the recent emergence of Mr Emmanuel Macron as The President of France after it emerged that he had been persecuting a section of the nation on account of it being Anglophone in orientation and culture.

Checks by The News office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia Group in Lagos,Nigeria ,shows  that just days to the second round of the French polls ,the Cameroonian government suddenly decided to relax some of its strongholds on the Anglophone parts of the country after feelers suggested from Paris ,France that Macron was going to coast home to a famous victory against the fierce some Marine Le Pen.

It would be recalled that for several weeks now,about three months  ,all forms of internet connectivity in the land was in lockdown in Anglophone Cameroun for reasons for reasons bothering on what some analysts have termed political persecution.

A public affairs analyst who spoke to this reporter in Lagos,Nigeria recently said that the Anglophone part of Cameroun was the economically viable part as it has the nation’s technological hub  while the French speaking parts provide most of the key administrators in the country.

French President Emmanuel Macron who coasted to victory on the platform of equality ,Justice ,fairness and strong values for cultural integration had at least 80 percent of the voting populace in the English speaking part of France voting for him during the country’s just concluded polls.

Macron had first showed his bias for cultural equality when during his campaigns he had visited some group of French students at a University in Berlin,Germany and while delivering his lecture at the event delivered it to an audience speaking English considered a taboo by the French .

He was widely criticized by a lot of political opponents in the run –off to the polls but Macron stood his grounds as he later coasted home to a very famous victory .

Macron will be sworn in shortly into office at The Elysee Palace in Paris ,France with Mr Paul Biya who has been in office for much of the last 35 years in Yaounde ,Cameroun expected to be one of his early callers or guests event at the swearing –in events.

The source added that a lot of commentaries on the planned visit of Mr Paul Biya  had  led to a lot of cat calls among opponents ,civil society groups  and members of the various strata of the society in Cameroun as at press time with some suggesting that if he eventually goes to France it will be part of another agenda to lay siege on power for the long term.

Mr Paul Biya  from Southern Cameroun replaced first President ,Alhaji Ahmadu Ahidjo in 1982 and since then he has acquired a reputation as one of Africa’s longest reigning leaders.

In a related issue , a coalition of rights groups monitoring internet outage has disclosed that Businesses in Cameroon have lost over $1.39 million (860M Francs) as the internet shutdown in the country entered  a fourth week time lag recently.

The government ordered the suspension of internet services to the English speaking North-west and South-west since January 18 as lawyers’ and teachers’ strike escalated into violence.

In a letter to the Cameroon firms, it says the conservative estimate did not take into account the long-term effects such as the disruption of supply chains and the significant amount of remittance that Cameroons living abroad sent to the affected regions.

The lobby group said it had earlier informed the government that the shutdown violated human rights.

“We write to urgently request your support in restoring internet access in the South West and North West regions of Cameroon. We ask that you publicly identify the steps you are taking to restore access to the internet in Cameroon,” the letter reads.

The mobile voice and data service companies in the country is yet to officially comment on the statement.

African largest mobile network MTN Cameroon, a subsidiary of the South Africa telecom giant, is the biggest network in the country with a 51 percent market share.

However, the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms (CNDHL) in a statement has indicated that the mission of observation and investigation in respect of the cases of violations of human rights in the Northwest and Southwest regions lead to a resolution stating that it is necessary to find a neutral mediator, credible and accepted by all.

The group said it intends to continue to ensure a mediation in search for a durable solution that would lead to a final end to the crisis.
