NGO maintains focus despite founder’s death

By Abdulmumini Adeku
A not –for-profit organization, The Family Ark Mission has affirmed that it will continue to remain   focus despite the demise of its founder.
In his address to the gathering during the recent World Elders Day festivities held in Lagos, Nigeria, The National Coordinator of the agency, Mr David Oludare Mark  threw his weight behind the recent legislations that supported the aged in Nigeria.
He lamented the fact that in the past the Nigerian Federal government has taken a lot of steps to  help the elders in the public in various areas like primaryhealth, education, housing, recreation, transportation, finance but this hardly ever saw the light of the day.
He urged the state to hurry up  by engaging the services of well thought out think-tanks to implement  the policies formulated to enhance the welfare of elders in our society.
His words:”our senior citizens are assets and not liabilities, as such wisdom demands that a workable grassroots structure be put in place by families, youths, religious bodies ,corporate organizations, and governments to ensure that the aged lives in a better environment and better conditions of living in preparation for their last office”
He assured that the lack of support and not having the right experts in the system is responsible for the high rate of invalidity among the nation’s ageing people.
He pleaded with the multinational corporations in Nigeria not to limit sponsorships and other forms of support to the youths alone as this was counter productive on the long term when properly evaluated.
