Nigeria youths have been assured of
the National Assembly commitment to set agenda’s that will guarantee smooth
policy formulation by the present administration that will be beneficial to
youths in the country.
Chairman House committee on youths
and social development Hon. Kamil Akinlabi Mudashiru gave the assurance while
speaking at a two day workshop in Abuja with the theme Business and entrepreneurial
skills organized by a youth Copper ,Muhammed Sani Usman in collaboration with
the raw materials Research and Development council.
Hon. Akinlabi who represents
Afijio/Atiba east and Oyo west federal constituency, also landed the effort of the organizers of the program
me as he described it the workshop as a worthwhile project as he maintained that such a gathering of youth will
help bring to the government areas in the life’s of youths that needed urgent
attention.
He noted that gone were the days
when youths were only known on issues of activism maintaining that the 20th
century should be the era of agenda setting.
While calling on other youths to
emulate the organizer, Hon. Akinlabi however assured that the national Assembly
will continue to formulate laws that will set agenda for the policy makers for
them to be able to know what will be done for the benefit of the youths who are
leaders of tomorrow.
In a paper titled sustainability and
Development of Entrepreneur in Nigeria Mr. Moshood Lawal told the youths to be
mindful of the present day development which does not make education to be
everything like in the olden days.
Lawal who lamented that
poverty has been on the increase in recent days observed that because of the
growing demand for white collar jobs, youths who are applicant looking for jobs
would instead become tools in the hands of unscrupulous business men who rather
make money out of their desperate conditions.
According to Lawal when
unemployed youths are deceived to buy scratch cards to apply for jobs online,
He speaks:” over 1000 applicant buy
that one thousand each you know how much that means, somebody sits some where
and makes his cool money without stress” he lamented.
He advised that youths should move away from been dependent on government jobs but be business conscious
maintaining that by so doing they will be more useful as future leaders and
also be employers of labor.
In a welcome speech, the organizer of the programme, a youth copper
with the FCP Muhammad Sani said he was driven by the passion to put together
the workshop for his fellow colleagues and youths in general as part of his community
development service project.
He further explained that the
workshop was designed to enlighten and expose corps members to business and
entrepreneurial dynamics and also to those who were already in business who may
want to improve their managerial skills and also gain better understanding of
the business environment they operate in .
Mohammed lamented that a great
number of Nigerian graduates today roam about the streets in search of non -existent
jobs pointing out that skill acquisition and entrepreneurship have been
identified to provide employment and means of livelihood for millions of
people all over the world.
He recalled that Dr Siyambola while
at one time during a sensitization workshop on entrepreneur attitudinal status
in Nigerian territory institutions at Obafemi Awolowo Uni. Ile-ife disclosed
that over 5 million Nigerians are either not productively engaged or unemployed,
Lamenting ,he pointed out that every day
danger lurked on our economy unless both
the government and the private sector generate over 2.5 million jobs yearly or else
their will be no solution to unemployment in this country as about 60% of
Nigerian graduates will remain unemployed.
