Ken Saro -wiwa re-echoes at book reading By Abdulmumini Adeku.


How vital,the late Ken Saro Wiwa  is to the Nigerian literary community once again became evident as the Sunbird African Media formally flagged-off its 10,000 neighborhood book reading club initiative at the week end.
In his address at the event,the Chief executive officer of the company,Mr Richard Mammah lamented the poor reading culture in Nigeria.
Mrs Temitope Oladejo,Director of UTOL Schools in Arepo,Ogun State said that the program came up in there school when they actually needed a project like tat to re-jig their pupils as they have told the that there was no short cut to success but through an effective studying technique.
she recalled that her father who had the habits of buying motivational books for her aside from newspapers helped her a great deal to grow her reading culture to an appreciable level till today.
Mr Emmanule Okoro,a book enthusiast noted that he had traveled to at least 24 out 0f 36 states in Nigeria on book promotion schemes in the past but he was hardly a great reader while at school .
He added that the present generation of children and youths in primary and secondary schools should count themselves very lucky at early exposure to a reading culture.

Mr Rapheal James ,Program Directer of the Center for  research ,information management and media development and who owns a private library in Lagos urged stakeholders to take the art of reading seriously as it was dangerous to have a nation of poor readers.
Mr Emmanuel okoh read from a Ken Saro wiwa inspired work to the delight of the gathering.
He assured that what the late environmentalist fought for during his life time was still very much relevant as he answered questions on the post mortem of his readings.
Miss Sharon James,the world's Youngest author who just missed out of a place in the Guinness Book of world records by the whiskers due to procedural issues rather than ability also read from her works to the delight of a cheering crowd.
