Brown Ideye rejoice moments after agreeing terms to ply his trade at Upton Park in London for another three years after the disappointment of missing out of the Nigerian Squad for Brazil 2014
West Bromwich Albion have made their
fifth signing of the summer with the capture of striker Brown Ideye from
Dynamo Kiev for a club record fee.
The 25-year-old has signed a three-year deal, with the option of a further year, after completing his medical. He will wear the No.9 shirt at the Hawthorns.
The transfer fee paid for the Nigeria international, who has 24 caps for his country, breaks the record amount paid by West Brom for Stephane Sessegnon from Sunderland last summer.
"Brown is a quality striker and I'm looking forward to working with him," Baggies head coach Alan Irvine told www.wba.co.uk. "He's a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience."
A transfer to France followed in 2010, and 15 goals helped Sochaux finish fifth in Ligue 1.
He moved to Dynamo Kiev in 2011, where he scored 34 goals in 74 league appearances, while Ideye helped Nigeria win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
In his career to date, Ideye has scored 74 goals in 182 career league appearances.
"When I arrived at Albion the recruitment department flagged Brown up as the man at the top of their wish list," added Albion technical director Terry Burton. "It is a fantastic signing because of the quality and the potential of the player.
"I can see that he really wants to be here and that he really wants to be playing in the Premier League. He's a dynamic player who likes to get in behind defenders and he has the pace to do so.
"He gets himself into good scoring positions in the box and if there are opportunities then he will get on the end of them. We're looking forward to seeing him play for the club and scoring goals."
