LAGOS GOVT TO BOOST EBOLA RESEARCH

Lagos state government officials were united in praising the
World Health organization for finally declaring Nigeria Ebola Free while at the
same time noting that they will be working to boost research funding for Ebola
soon.
In an address to a cross section of the Nigerian media, at the
Governors Press Centre in Alausa , Ikeja ,Lagos The Commissioner for Health ,Mr
Jide Idris said that it was easy for the state to crack Ebola Virus disease like
a coconut because they had already worked on its status as a mega city in the past.
He explained that as a mega city ,they had put plans in
motion on how to respond to a disaster of this magnitude and when the incident
finally happened they swung into action immediately.
He once again paid tributes to the late Dr Adadevoh ,Deceased
Medical Director of First Consultant Hospital for standing in the gap for the over one
hundred million Nigerians who could have been at risk as a result of Mr Patrick
Sawyers antics.
He thanked all the
stakeholders that worked around the clock to arrest the situation before
it got out of hand in Nigeria ,warning that we were not yet out of the woods as
the scourge was still ravaging Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.
He revealed that efforts were in top gear to making sure
that the surveillance capacity of the state will be boosted soon so as to be
able to do what is essential in public health system.
He assured that they will not be joking with the issue of
research as this was key to the nations developmental future.
He disclosed that the government was giving out a sum of
N50million to the management of First Consultant Hospital to encourage
them and not for compensation in the
light of what happened to them during the Ebola crisis .
In a related issue, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, Commissioner for Information,
Lagos State said that even though Nigerians
will have to continue to be at alert on the Ebola Virus disease ,he was nonetheless
happy that the worst was over.
