Airport Authorities: “We consider the undisciplined and irresponsible conduct
to be very severe”.
Another surprise strike at
Ben-Gurion Airport: Airport Authorities announced that Border Inspection
employees from the Ministry of Interior went on strike today (Tuesday) “Without
notice and in violation of previous agreements made with them”. After a
little more than an hour the employees returned to work. No disruption to
flight schedules was recorded.
“Border
Inspection employees from the Ministry of Interior started slowing down their
work and commenced an ‘Italian Strike’”, said Airport Authority administration.
“The State of Israel is putting a
lot of effort to rehabilitate the tourism and civil aviation industries, and
there are those who sabotage these efforts, and not for the first time”, said
the administration. “We consider the undisciplined and irresponsible conduct by
Ministry of Interior workers at Ben-Gurion Airport to be very severe”.
Two months ago, Customs and Ministry
of Interior employees at Ben-Gurion Airport went on a wild strike without any
prior notice. As a result, hundreds of passengers trying to enter Israel were
delayed and heavy traffic was felt at the Airport.
Customs officials said that the
sanctions came as an order from the Histadrut, as part of an act of solidarity
with the general struggle for economic reform. An hour later, however, the
Histadrut instructed to cease the strike immediately.
