DSK
Concludes Southern Taraba Zonal Rally in Grand Style.
THE HIGHLY FEARED FULANI HERDSMEN ARE A THORN IN THE FLESH OF TARABA STATE INDIEGENES
Governorship
candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Taraba State, Chief David
Sabo Kente last Saturday, February 14th, 2015 rounded up the ongoing
campaign for the Taraba State top job tussle slated for April 11th
2015, at Wukari his hometown.
The
ancient city of Wukari is also the headquarters of the Jukun Kingdom and as
well the Southern Senatorial Zone; meanwhile, a grand finale to climax the
campaigns by the party has been scheduled for a later date.
With
the successful campaign of the SDP at Wukari, the party has brought it to 15 in
numbers of the local government areas visited during the campaign tours,
including Yangtu Development Area, which placed the party above others in terms
of campaign coverage to the area in the ongoing campaigns by political parties
in the state.
Addressing
an unprecedented crowd at St. Mary Primary School play ground, Wukari during
the party’s Wukari/Zonal as well as peace rallies, the SDP governorship
candidate, Chief David Sabo Kente who is also a son of the soil, promised that
a basic priority of his government if voted into power, would be to ensure the
return of peace to the Southern Taraba and the entire state, reconstruct Wukari
town as well as reconcile the fragile communities, so that the suspicion and
loss of confidence among the people would be regained for peaceful
co-existence.
The
approach to adopt for the reconstruction he said, “experience has shown that
the failure or success of any given government policy depends on the
acceptability of the community and as someone who has also suffered the
violence with the attack on Kente my village I’ve gathered a lot of meaningful
experience; after the crisis what I did as an individual was to adopt a
community based approach which made all the people involved positively and the
idea worked perfectly.
“As
a government, if given the mandate of Tarabans, I would adopt the same approach
as a parameter for not just the reconstruction of Wukari and Ibi towns among
other communities in Taraba State that have been destroyed by the violence”.
The
governorship hopeful further explained that those whose houses were destroyed
would be encouraged and assisted by government to rebuild them.
Chief
Kente said, “I tried this method as an individual and it worked perfectly,
therefore I believe God that as a government, it would work even better.”
He
also promised that if given the mandate as governor of the state in the next
political dispensation, his administration would also initiate reconciliatory
processes that would make it possible for all the communities of Jukun, Tiv,
Fulani and Hausa extractions to co-habit without further violence, maintaining
that his administration would give priority to peace for meaningful development.
While
calling on the people of Wukari to vote for the SDP enmasse because it is the
only political party that would bring meaningful development to the area and
the entire Taraba State, Chief Kente also promised the Southern Taraba people
that his government would be a sharp deviation from over-dependence on the
federal allocations as done in the past, stressing that he would encourage
ventures that would promote the economic growth of the Internally Generated
Revenue (IGR) of the state.
He
said such proceeds would be used to improve on agriculture, education, health,
tourism and industrial sub-sectors by establishing cottage industries which
would create employment opportunities for the teeming graduates of Taraba
origin roaming the streets and as well reduce youth restiveness.
The
State Chairman, SDP, Mr. Peter Achagwa in his remark called on all Tarabans to
vote for the SDP because the party stands for justice and equity and would also
develop the state because of the credibility of its governorship flag bearer,
Chief David Sabo Kente.
Hon.
Mahmud Pitiko and Garvey Yaweh who spoke on behalf of the northern and central
Taraba, called on the people of Southern Taraba to vote for the SDP and all
other contestants of the party, and not just for the governorship candidate who
is their son who had been tested and trusted to govern the state amicably.
The
further observed that Northern and Central Taraba Zones had already resolved to
vote for the SDP governorship candidate, Chief Kente and other candidates of
the party.
Also
in his remark, the Chairman DSK Campaign Organization, Chief D.S. Nyapuri
maintained that a vote for SDP is a vote for freedom, peace and attendant
ingredient of development.
He
also charged supporters to shun politics of bitterness and concentrate on
selling the manifestoes of the SDP and candidature of its governorship flag
bearer, Chief David Sabo Kente, to the people to enable the party win the April
11th governorship election in Taraba State as well as other positions
being contested under the party.
Also
speaking, the Zonal Youth Leader of the party, Mr. Chris Ajiduku and the
Director Women, Chief David Sabo Kente Campaign Organization on behalf of
Southern Taraba women, Mrs. Phoebe Isah called on Taraba youths and women to
vote for SDP in the forthcoming general election, pointing out that the DSK
administration would improve the education and alleviate the poverty level of
the state and as well bring about the much needed peace in the state.
Speaking
during the peace rally, representatives of the Muslim and Christian
communities, Alhaji Sabo Angyo and Rev. Bulus Gau all promised to prevail on
their members to maintain lasting peace and vote for the SDP and all its
contestants.
Alhaji
Angyo particularly called on youths to vote Chief Kente as the next governor of
the state considering the fact that he is one of their sons from Wukari who
would remember the area better if voted into governance.
As
a mark for the return of lasting peace to the entire Southern Taraba, the SDP
governorship candidate, Chief David Sabo Kente, released 4 pigeons with the
first representing Fulani, second representing Tiv, third and fourth is
representing the Jukun and Hausa communities respectively.
