THE NITE SHIFT
COLISEUM NOW A GHOST HOUSE.
BY OLADUNNI KOSOKO
A NIGHT CLUB IN SOUTH AFRICA
The Guvnor, Ken Calebs Olumese is apparently not in his happiest
times as his long-time hangout, the nite shift coliseum, has been shifted to an
era of hard times, which may eventually lead to the closing down of the coliseum. The
once upon a time ever lively club house was no different from a deserted ghost
house as at Friday 20th February, 2015 around 10pm, which is not
expected of an operating club house. The fun spot, which is situated on
salvation road, Ikeja, Lagos, was said to have stopped operations for about
two years now according to a reliable source living in the area.
“The place has been closed about two years ago now” he said.
It should also be recalled that a Ground house reception was held in honour of
the two major Lagos State Gubernatorial candidates, Mr Jimi Agbaje and Mr Akinwumi
Ambode on Saturday 31st January, 2015 and Sunday 8th
February, 2015 respectively which was also confirmed by our source. “Yes, they
opened it for that purpose done and has since locked it back”. He confirms.
The club which is the longest surviving night club in Lagos
before its eventual closure in 2015 is reputed to be the number one fun spot
for the rich and Nigerian celebrities. It was opened formally in August 5, 2005
on salvation road, opebi, after a mysterious fire razed the first building in December
18, 2003. The first building was opened on February 2, 1999 on the same
salvation road, Opebi, Ikeja, after which he relocated from a rented apartment
with which it commenced operations in 1998, in Opebi.
He also revealed that the edifice is still being used for
hosting of events and shows since it closed all clubbing activities two years
ago.
