Nigeria’s University of Port Harcourt in Rivers state is in the news and for a very good reason  this time around,it has just placed sixth in a TIMES Higher Education poll conducted for the Top 30 African Universities in the year:2015/2016 academic session.
In a fact file given to The News Office Desk of Paedia Express Multimedia in Lagos,Nigeria ,it was discovered that the top 30 poll was conducted using the ratio of citations received by schools publication output between 2009 and 2013 and the  total citations that was expected based on the average of the subject field.
Paedia Express gathered that to be included on the table ,an institution must have published a minimum of 500 research papers in the five year period assessed with at least  50 papers per year.
Paedia Express learnt that out of a list of 30 universities in the maiden list only a representative from Ghana made the list: The University of Ghana,Legon
Sources reveal: an institution must have published a minimum of 500 research papers in the five- year period assessed with at least 50 papers per year”
Mr Phil Baty , Editor of The World University rankings  is said to have said that building on the flagship was to help develop more metrics to capture a wider range of activities at African universities as the top 30n was designed to get the conversation going.
