A NEW BREED POLITICIAN,BARRISTER JOSEPHINE UZOYA IJEKHUEMEN
WHO WILL BE VYING FOR A POSITION AS THE REPRESENTATIVE OF HER PEOPLE AT THE
HOUSE OF THE REPRESENTATIVES ,ESAN NORTH EAST /SOUTH EAST FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY SPEAKS OF WHAT SHE WILL DO TO CHANGE THE
POLITY COME 2019 UNDER THE BANNER OF THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY IN WHICH SHE
WILL BE CONTESTING,EXCERPTS.....
WHY DO YOU WANT TO GO INTO POLITICS?
I am a human rights activist and i have been involved since
1997 and i have worked with several groups on health rights ,women's rights
,children's rights, rights of people living with H.I.V,rights of vulnerable
people amongst others.
In all of this time,i have also been interfacing with
government officials between the leaders and those who are led,the leadership
as we have it now do not see themselves as servants to those that they are
governing and that in itself is a big problem.
WHAT DO YOU SEE FROM THE FOLLOWERS WHICH YOU THINK YOU CAN
USE YOUR STYLE TO CORRECT?
They have being boxed into a tight corner so much so that
they do not even know that they can actually take up their own destiny and
fight for their future
WHAT DO YOU SEE ABOUT THE POOR SECURITY IN THE LAND?
It is just due to the failure of governance and its poor
leadership even at the highest level,In Nigeria when people are not affected
they feel they cannot be bothered at all.
WHAT WILL YOU GIVE TO YOUR PEOPLE AS DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY
?
I am qualified to give them a lot of capacity building, bring
top level global contacts who will bring
businesses into the constituency at all times.
WHY SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND NOT THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC
PARTY OR THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS ?
S.D.P. has a lot of socialist ideals which is what i love
anyway hence it is just natural that this is where i will belong and this
centered on the fundamentals of human rights like equality, justice ,fairness ,transparency
and all of that put together..
WHAT DO YOU SEE IN THE HORIZON?
Things are evolving, elections are becoming very technical
and increasingly becoming more difficult to rig like in the past and this is
what it should be anyway and a lot of people want to know what you want can do
for them before they cast their ballots for you as people are no longer swayed
by sugar coated mouth anymore.
It's high time the Nigerian Youths wake up and be actively
involved in the entire process,we also need more women to get involved as well.
DON'T YOU SEE RIGGING COMING UP IN 2019?
I know that we cannot rule that out as there are elements
that will always want to break the laws of the land at all cost but we are hoping that when all
hands involved in the entire process and people do not just vote but are ready
to defend their votes this menace will be reduced to the barest minimum.
WHERE DO YOU SEE NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS OR
SO?
During the last elections in 2015,Dr Goodluck Jonathan
handed over peacefully to Muhammadu Buhari and as such we are hoping that within
the next decade or so there will be electronic voting deeply entrenched in our
systems and Nigerians in Diaspora can also exercise their civic rights and may be at such times in the future rigging
will be a thing of the past.
So when rigging is done for any reason at all ,then the
person involved will face the full wrath of the laws of the land.
