Rising from a highly charged atmosphere ,governorship
candidates in Lagos state for the 2015 General
Elections have vowed to take a second look at the finance or treasury operations
of the state especially in the area of
its mounting debt portfolio.
In an exclusive chat with Paedia Express Multimedia at the
venue of a recent governorship debate held at the Central Studios of the Lagos
Television in Ikeja,Lagos,Nigeria and organized by the leadership of the
Niegrian Union of Journalists[N.U.J]Lagos state chapter,the candidates of the
various parties were noticeably angry at the way the All Progressive Congress
led leadership had conducted the affairs of the state in the last 16 years.
Comrade Ayodele Akele ,Governorship candidate ,National
Conscience Party[N.C.P.],who spoke severally of several years of torture from
Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s evil machinations on account of his standing on
principles was emphatic in declaring that he will not be paying any form of
debt since he did not incur them in the first place,with Mr Michael Abiodun
Popoola ,Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party saying that there
was no way they will gloss over the sins
of the previous regime before them as they will be probed by the law.
The governorship candidate of the Mega Progressive Peoples
Party ,Mr Kayode Jacobs said that he will look for how to re-negotiate the
loans so that it does not affect his performance while in office.
In his analysis of what his administration intends to stand
for if elected to public office, Comrade Ayodele Akele said that he will strive
to ensure that the citizens have good water, housing while carrying out a
massive reform in the state civil service in areas like the judiciary, treasury
and employment .
The social critic revealed of his intentions to turn the
metropolitan city of Lagos from just been a mere financial services center to a
major industrial center by creating four new
industrial centers in the state.
According to the politician, The Lagos Atlantic City Project
has to be one of the greatest rip-offs of all time and warned that if elected to power he will
take a second look at the viability of the project to the state purse.
He explained that he will as a matter of urgency push not
less than 50,000 new buses into Lagos roads to boost the state’s mass transit
program.
He attacked Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos state
and his predecessor ,Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fixing pension for
themselves which sets the state purse
backwards by N4billion. Annually while at
the same time excluding Alhaji Lateef Jakande from the largesse.
He assured the down trodden not to waiver in their believes
in him as they will not go hungry for a second if elected since he was going to
build a food kitchen akinned the famed stomach infrastructure of Governor Ayodele
Fayose of Ekiti State aside from payment of unemployment benefits to the
jobless indigenes of the state.
In his own contributions at the debate,Mr Michael Abiodun
Popoola ,Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Labor Party said that his party
will be using a four pronged approach to solving the economic problems of Lagos
state.
He explained that his team if voted into positions of public
trust will create a new employment bureau
,carry out reforms in areas like education, and the judiciary while creating a new legal framework to
support the small and medium scale entrepreneurs.
He affirmed that there regime will be pushing for the
requisite training of everybody that works in the road transport sector in the state.
In his own philosophies, Mr Kayode Jacobs ,Governorship candidate
for the Mega Progressive Peoples Party told the people of the state that he
will be working hard to boost the standard of education ,housing and construction
of roads if elected to office as
Governor of Lagos.
His words:”we will ensure that every law in the state is not
just made but obeyed,if you visit Kirikiri Maximum Prisons there are several
people in jail who have not even been tried at all”
“You cannot stop corruption except if you hate it ,Hong Kong
was more corrupt than Nigeria but they are no longer corrupt and due to this the people now believe in the
government, it can happen here too”
“half of the people who have ruled the state in the past
will go to prison as this is where they deserve to be ,we will put up
structures in prisons that will help to make them properly reformed”
He added that the notorious activities of Alpha Beta Consulting, a company related to a politician
in the state will be curbed as the state needed the money to carry out projects and will therefore not be serving the interest of politician no matter whose axe
was gored.
The event which was showed on state television live and
beamed to billions around the world via the web through streaming ,was also
pushed around through the digital satellite platforms and terrestrial television
platform by Lagos Television.
The social media was abuzz with followers sending in
comments via Twitter and Face book with those on You Tube also monitoring the
proceedings as Mr Femi Adeshina,President,Nigerian Guild of Editors moderated the
over two hours of event.
